Plains Feedlots, Packers Face
Off Over $4-5 Spread On Price

Plains feedlots were asking $84-85 at midweek against packer bids of $80. Last week’s market settled $2-2.50 lower at $82.

Slaughter Meat Goat Prices
Lower In Most Recent Sales

Slaughter meat goat prices were lower in most recent trading. Hamilton called the market $10 lower, Fredericksburg $10-15 lower, San Angelo $10-20 lower, Goldthwaite $15-20 lower, and New Holland, Pennsylvania $8-10 lower per head.

Packer Lamb Prices Steady To Some Lower
Sheep prices this week were quoted anywhere from lower to firm, but none were higher. Feeder lamb prices at San Angelo were firm, while Fredericksburg feeders sold $3-5 lower. Angelo light packer lambs were steady, but both Fredericksburg and Goldthwaite quoted light lambs lower and heavyweights steady.

The USDA-ERS May 28 Outlook for U.S. Agricultural Trade report forecast U.S. agricultural exports for 2009 at $96 billion, down 16.9 percent from last year’s record exports of $115.5 billion, but up 16.2 percent from the $82.2 billion exported in 2007. The global recession, lower commodity prices, and a higher U.S. dollar are limiting trade.

Abilene Feeder Heifer Prices $1-2 Higher
Feeder steers under 500 pounds were steady to firm, over 500 pounds $1-3 lower, heifers under 500 pounds $1-2 higher, over 500 pounds $1-2 higher, slaughter cows and bulls $2-3 lower, replacement cows and cow-calf pairs $50 lower. Receipts totaled 846 head.

Amarillo Feeder Cattle Steady To $2 Lower
Feeder steers and heifers were steady to $2 lower, slaughter cows $4-6 lower, slaughter bulls $1-2 lower. Receipts totaled 925 head.

Light Angelo Packer Lamb Prices Steady
Light slaughter lambs were steady, slaughter ewes steady, feeder lambs firm, kid goats $10-20 lower, nannies firm. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 9800 head.

Athens Feeder Steer Prices Decline $4-6
Feeder steers were $4-6 lower, heifers $3-5 lower, slaughter cows $2-4 lower, slaughter bulls $2-3 lower. Receipts totaled 1260 head.

Beeville Steer Trend Is Weak To $6 Lower|
Feeder steers were weak to $6 lower, heifers steady to $4 lower, slaughter cows steady. Receipts totaled 385 head.

Boxed Beef Cutout Values All Lower
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report for last week showed prices down $2.92 from the previous week at $139.81. A year ago the cutout value was $155.08.

Feeder steers and heifers were $2-4 lower on offerings not as attractive as last week, slaughter cows and bulls $3-4 lower. Receipts totaled 1370 head.

Clifton Feeder Steer Prices Steady To Off
Feeder steers were steady to $4 lower, heifers steady except 500-600 pounds $1-3 higher, slaughter cows and bulls $2-4 lower. Receipts totaled 970 head.

Coleman Light Steer Prices Decline $2-3
Feeder steers under 500 pounds were $2-3 lower, over 500 pounds $3-5 lower, heifers under 500 pounds $2-4 lower, over 500 pounds $2-3 lower, slaughter cows and bulls $2-4 lower, replacement cows and cow-calf pairs steady to firm. Receipts totaled 1678 head.

Crockett Feeder Steers, Heifers $3-4 Lower
Feeder steers and heifers were $3-4 lower, slaughter cows $2-3 lower, slaughter bulls $3-4 lower. Receipts totaled 1498 head.

Dalhart Feeder Cattle Sell Mostly $2 Lower
Feeder steers and heifers were mostly $2 lower on limited offerings, slaughter cows and bulls $2-4 lower. Receipts totaled 868 head.

DeQuincy Meat Goat Prices Mostly Steady
All represented meat goat classes were mostly steady on receipts of 300 head.

Edinburg Steer, Heifer Prices Decline $3-4
Feeder steers and heifers were $3-4 lower, slaughter cows $2 lower, slaughter bulls steady. Receipts totaled 619 head.

Emory Feeder Cattle Steady To $2 Lower
Feeder steers and heifers were steady to $2 lower, slaughter cows $1-2 lower, slaughter bulls steady to $2 lower on a light test. Receipts totaled 1326 head.

Fredericksburg Packer Lambs, Goats Decline
Feeder lambs were $3-5 lower, light slaughter lambs $5-10 lower, heavyweights steady on a light test, slaughter goats $10-15 lower. Receipts totaled 3253 head.

Heavier Goldthwaite Packer Lambs Steady
Light slaughter lambs were $20-25 lower, heavyweights steady, stocker and feeder goats $5-10 lower, slaughter goats $15-20 lower. Receipts totaled 2704 head.

Light Graham Steers Sell Steady To Firm
Feeder steers under 500 pounds were steady to firm, over 500 pounds $2-3 lower, heifers under 500 pounds $2-4 lower, over 500 pounds $1-3 lower, slaughter cows and bulls $3-5 lower, replacement cows and cow-calf pairs $50 lower. Receipts totaled 1262 head.

Hamilton Sheep, Goat Prices Quoted Lower
Kid goats were $10 lower Monday, nannies $5 lower, wool lambs $10 lower, Barbado lambs $15 lower, Dorper lambs $10 lower, ewes $7 lower. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 2694 head.

Imported Meat Total 15% Above Last Year
Imported meat for the week ending April 25 totaled 27,667 metric tons. This compares to 23,718 metric tons for the same period last year and is a 15 percent increase. The following figures represent metric tons.

Industry Feeder Cattle Price Trends Lower
Feeder steers and heifers were $1-3 lower, slaughter cows $1-2 lower, slaughter bulls $2-3 lower. Receipts totaled 993 head.

Most Mason, San Saba Stocker Cattle Steady
San Saba and Mason stocker steers and heifers were steady, feeder steers $2 lower, feeder heifers steady to $1 lower, packer cows and bulls $1-3 lower. Receipts totaled 2096 head for the two sales.

San Saba Replacement Sale Offers 4455 Head
Younger and fleshier cow-calf pairs were $1100-1440 in special replacement trading, pairs carrying less flesh or solidmouth $900-1150. Most bred cows were $875-1120. Bred heifers, most due to calve this fall, were mostly $875-1200 with one set of 28 true F-1 tigerstripes $1300. Open heifers were $600-900 depending on size and kind. Receipts totaled 4455 head.

Lampasas Feeder Cattle Prices Trend Lower
Feeder steers and heifers under 500 pounds were $2-4 lower, over 500 pounds $5-7 lower, slaughter cows steady, slaughter bulls $6-8 lower on a limited test. Receipts totaled 674 head.

Lockhart Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Lower
Feeder steers and heifers were $3-5 lower, slaughter cows and bulls $3-5 lower. Receipts totaled 654 head.

Red Meat Production .9% Below A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 945.9 million pounds, 11.2 percent higher than the previous week and .9 percent lower than last year. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was four percent lower than last year.

Milano Steers Mostly Lower, A Few Steady
Feeder steers were mostly $1-3 lower except for several packages of long-weaned medium and large No. l weighing 500-600 pounds steady, heifers $2-4 lower, slaughter cows and bulls $2-4 lower. Receipts totaled 1164 head.

Futures Blamed For $2-5 Decline

Feeder cattle and calves sold $2-5 lower across the country last week under pressure from sharply lower CME Feeder Cattle futures as August contracts lost more than $5 for the week.

Feeder steers and heifers over 700 pounds traded $2-4 lower, under 700 pounds $3-7 lower. The East had a good test of cattle for late summer delivery that sold fully $4-7 lower. Receipts totaled 75,200 head.

Tulia Feeder Cattle Trend Declines $2-5
Feeder steers and heifers were $2-5 lower, slaughter cows and bulls $2-4 lower. Receipts totaled 1782 head.

U.S. Wool Moderate, Aussie Index Lower
Domestic wool trading on a clean basis was moderate last week, with 385,785 pounds of confirmed sales and moderate to good demand. All prices are reported on a weighted average.
