Plains Feedlots Await Weather
Developments; Trade Languishes

Plains fed cattle trade was at a standstill at midweek, the weather calling the shots. Packer bids were $84 against asking prices of $88. Last week’s trade was light at $86.

Most Packer Lambs Steady To Higher
Packer lamb prices were mostly steady to higher this week, light lambs at San Angelo selling firm to $5 higher. Goldthwaite slaughter lambs were steady to firm. Hamilton wool lambs were $15 higher, Barbado lambs $10 higher and Dorper lambs $20 higher. No report was available for Fredericksburg. New Holland, Pennsylvania, lambs sold steady to $2 lower.

Slaughter meat goat prices were generally steady to higher in most recent sales. San Angelo was steady, Goldthwaite steady to firm and Hamilton $7-10 higher. New Holland, Pennsylvania sold mostly $6-8 lower per head, and Fredericksburg went unreported.

Boxed Beef Cutout Prices Move Lower
The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report for last week showed prices down $1.31 from the previous week at $141.46. A year ago the cutout value was $144.86.

All cattle and calves in the United States as of January 1 totaled an estimated 93.7 million head, down one percent from the 94.5 million head figure for last year.

Feeder steers and heifers were steady, packer cows and bulls steady. Weather-reduced receipts totaled 176 head.

Crockett Feeder Cattle Trend Steady To Firm
Feeder steers and heifers were steady to firm, slaughter cows and bulls $2-3 higher. Receipts totaled 782 head.

Durant Packer Cows Trend $2-3 Higher
Feeder cattle price trend were untested on a light run, slaughter cows $2-3 higher, slaughter bulls $3-5 higher. Rain-reduced receipts totaled 387 head.

Edinburg Feeder Cattle Steady To $3 Higher
Feeder steers and heifers were steady to $3 higher, slaughter cows $1-2 higher, slaughter bulls steady. Receipts totaled 840 head.

Goldthwaite Packer Goats Steady To Firm
Slaughter lambs were steady to firm, slaughter goats steady to firm. Receipts totaled 747 head.

Graham Heavy Steers Sell Steady To Firm
Feeder steers under 500 pounds were steady, over 500 pounds steady to firm, heifers under 500 pounds steady, over 500 pounds $2-3 lower, slaughter cows and bulls steady on a light test. Receipts totaled 382 head.

Hamilton Kid Goat Prices Gain $7-10
Kid goats were $7-10 higher, nannies steady, wool lambs $15 higher, Barbado lambs $10 higher, Dorper lambs $20 higher, ewes $10 higher. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 924 head.

Imported Meat Total 11% Below Last Year
Imported meat for the week ending December 19 totaled 25,381 metric tons. This compares to 28,468 metric tons for the same period last year and is an 11 percent decrease. The following figures represent metric tons.

San Saba And Mason Stocker Steers Higher
Mason and San Saba stocker heifers were $3-5 higher, heifers with good condition $10 higher, stocker steers $3-5 higher, feeder steers $2-3 higher, feeder heifers $1 higher, packer cows $3 lower, packer bulls $1-2 lower. Receipts totaled 4285 head for the two sales.

Light Lampasas Feeder Steers $4-6 Higher
Feeder steers under 500 pounds were $4-6 higher, over 500 pounds steady to firm, instances $1-2 higher, heifers steady to firm, instances $2 higher, slaughter cows $4-5 lower, slaughter bulls steady to firm. Receipts totaled 1145 head.

Mohair And Wool LDP Rates Are Unchanged WASHINGTON — As of Wednesday the LDP for wool is unchanged at 29 cents. The LDP for mohair remains at zero as the posted price remains above the target price of $4.20.

Red Meat Production 3.9% Below A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 925.2 million pounds, 3.9 percent lower than the previous week and 3.9 percent lower than last year. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was 6.2 percent lower than last year.

Feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady in a light test, slaughter cows $3-5 higher, slaughter bulls steady. Rain-reduced receipts totaled 352 head.

Pleasanton Feeder Cattle Steady To Up
Feeder steers and heifers were steady to instances $3 higher, slaughter cows steady to firm, slaughter bulls steady. Receipts totaled 619 head.

Superior Video Sale Offers 30,000 Cattle
Feeder steers and heifers were unevenly steady in Superior Livestock Auction’s regularly scheduled video sale, some firmness noted on weights over 800 pounds, especially those for immediate or short-term deliveries. Some weakness was noted on lighter weight offerings in the Southern Plains. Receipts totaled 30,000 head.

Three Rivers Steers Steady, Heifers Firm
Feeder steers were steady, heifers firm, slaughter cows $2-4 higher, slaughter bulls firm. Receipts totaled 1311 head.

Tulia Weather Holds Receipts To 409 Head
Winter weather reduced cattle receipts to only 409 head, too few for an accurate market test.

Domestic Wool Quiet, Aussie Market Lower
Domestic wool trading on a clean basis was at a standstill last week, with no confirmed sales and moderate demand.
