Steady To Higher

Angelo feeder lambs and light packer lambs all sold sharply higher Tuesday. Hamilton wool lambs sold steady, Dorper lambs $10 higher, and Barbado lambs $20 higher. Goldthwaite feeder lambs were $5-10 higher, light slaughter lambs steady to firm, and heavyweights $5-10 higher.

At Midweek And Getting No Bids

Plains fed cattle trade was deathly quiet at midweek, feedlots asking $122-123 and packers sitting on their hands. Last week’s going rate was $119, down $2-2.50 from the previous week.

To Higher In Most Recent Trading

Slaughter meat goat prices were steady to higher in most recent trading. Hamilton and New Holland, Pennsylvania were steady, San Angelo “sharply” higher, and Goldthwaite was $5-10 higher on lightweights, $15-20 higher on heavies. Fredericksburg quoted no trend.

Stocker Cattle Steady

Mason and San Saba stocker steers were $3 higher, heifers $3-5 higher, feeder steers and heifers steady, packer cows $5-6 higher, packer bulls $7 higher, pairs and bred cows steady. Rain-reduced receipts totaled 1428 head for the two sales.

The 4th annual ASH Angus bull sale offered 130 bulls that averaged $3209 per head.

Steady To $2 Higher

Feeder steers and heifers under 600 pounds were steady to $2 higher, over 600 pounds not fully established, slaughter cows $6-8 higher. Receipts totaled 889 head.

Most Billings Feeder
Lambs $35-42 Lower

Feeder lambs sold $35-42 lower, a few $45-50 lower, slaughter ewes mostly steady in a light test. Receipts totaled 2800 head.

Boxed Beef Cutout
Prices Trend Lower

The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report for last week showed prices down 81 cents at $178.29. A year ago the cutout value was $151.50.

Feeder steers and heifers were $2-3 higher, slaughter cows $2-3 higher, slaughter bulls steady. Receipts totaled 1007 head.

LDPs for ungraded wool and mohair remained at zero as the posted price for both commodities remains above the target price.

Feeder steers and heifers were $8-10 higher, slaughter cows and bulls $1-3 higher. Receipts totaled 2260 head.

Red Meat Production
1.6% Below A Year Ago

Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 975.9 million pounds, 1.6 percent less than the previous week and 1.6 percent less than last year. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was .6 percent more than last year.

11% Below Last Year

Imported meat for the week ending September 3 totaled 19,765 metric tons. This compares to 22,202 metric tons for the same period last year and is an 11 percent decrease. The following figures represent metric tons.
