Plains Feedlots Seeing No Trade
On Fed Cattle Lists At Midweek

Plains fed cattle trade had yet to take off at midweek. Packers were bidding $117 against asking prices of $122 or better. Last week’s action came at $120, up a dollar from the week before.

San Angelo light slaughter lambs were sharply lower this week, feeder lambs $5-10 lower. Hamilton wool lambs sold $40 lower on a light test, Dorper lambs sharply lower, and Barbado lambs sharply lower. Price trends were not called at Fredericksburg, and Goldthwaite’s report was unavailable.

Mixed In Most Recent Reports

Slaughter meat goat prices were mixed where quoted in most recent trading. San Angelo was weak to $10 lower, Hamilton $20 lower, and New Holland, Pennsylvania mostly $10 higher per head.
Fredericksburg declined to call trends, and Goldthwaite went unreported yet again.

Cow-calf pairs sold form $1400-2600 depending on kind, size of calf and flesh, a few pairs from real dry areas, those not carrying as much flesh, and some solidmouths $1210-1500; medium to long bred cows $1200-1400, a set of 17 long bred Brangus $1600; cows 1-3 months bred $1050-1250, a set of tigerstripes $1550; most fall-calving heifers $1200-1550, a set of 11 true F-1 chocolates $1890; most open heifers $1000-1200, lighter weights $900-1050. Receipts totaled 3631 head.

Quoted $2-5 Higher

Cattle prices were $2-5 higher on receipts of 1156 head.
Steers: 150-300 pounds $150-275, 300-400 pounds $150-240, 400-500 pounds $135-192.50, 500-600 pounds $130-180, 600-700 pounds $125-155.

Heifer Trade Steady

Steers, heifers and yearlings were steady, except fleshy calves, bulls calves and yearlings weaker, slaughter cows and bulls steady to strong, bred cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 552 head.

Comanche Feeder Cattle
Trend Steady To Lower

Feeder cattle were steady to $5 lower in spots, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 548 head.

Clifton Stocker Steer
Prices $2-6 Higher

Stocker steers were $2-6 higher, stocker heifers steady to $2 higher, feeder cattle steady, packer cows steady, packer bulls $2 higher. Receipts totaled 835 head.

San Saba And Mason
Feeder Heifers Steady

Mason and San Saba stocker steers and heifers all sold steady to $2-3 higher, feeder steers steady to $1 higher, feeder heifers steady, packer cows $1 higher, packer bulls $1-2 higher, pairs and bred cows steady. Receipts totaled 1755 head for the two sales.

Wool And Mohair LDP

LDPs for ungraded wool and mohair remained at zero as the posted price for both commodities remains above the target price.

Feeder steers under 600 pounds were firm, over 600 pounds $2 higher, heifers under 600 pounds $2-3 higher, over 600 pounds $1-2 higher, slaughter cows and bulls $4-5 higher. Receipts totaled 3089 head.

Most Tulia Feeder
Steers $4-8 Higher

Feeder steers weighing 500-750 pounds sold mostly $4-8 higher, heifers 550-750 pounds steady to $2 higher, slaughter cows and bulls unevenly steady with some high dressing individuals higher. Receipts totaled 2497 head.

Red Meat Production
.6% Above A Year Ago

Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 921.9 million pounds, .5 percent higher than the previous week and .6 percent higher than last year. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was one percent lower than last year.

Imported Meat Total
26.6% Above Last Year

Imported meat for the week ending March 24 totaled 25,444 metric tons. This compares to 18,681 metric tons for the same period last year and is a 26.6 percent increase. The following figures represent metric tons.

Feeder steers and heifers were $3-5 lower, quality considered, slaughter cows $1 lower, bulls steady, bred cows $25 lower, pairs steady. Receipts totaled 769 head.

Prices Trend Higher

The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report for last week showed prices up $1.25 from the previous week at $189.42. A year ago the cutout value was $178.58.

Nation’s Feeder Cattle Price
Trends Last Week Called Uneven

Feeder cattle trade was uneven across the country last week, with varying trends depending on what part of the week sales occurred, location and quality of feeder cattle. The two larger auctions during the first of the week in Oklahoma City and Joplin sold calves mostly $2-5 lower, with many auctions following the same trend.

Termed Steady To Lower

Calves were steady to $5 lower, feeder cattle $4-7 lower, packer cows $2-4 higher, packer bulls $2-3 higher, bred cows $50-75 lower, pairs $50-100 lower. Receipts totaled 1797 head.

Three Rivers Light
Calves $2-4 Higher

Lightweight calves were $4-6 higher, heavy calves and yearlings $2-4 higher, packer cows and bulls steady to $2 higher. Receipts totaled 1075 head.

Graham Cattle Auction
Receipts 811 Head

Cattle receipts totaled 811 head.
Steers: under 300 pounds $210-250, 300-400 pounds $190-230, 400-500 pounds $160-195, over 500 pounds $110-175.

Light Clovis Steers
Steady To Strong

Feeder steers under 600 pounds were unevenly steady to strong, over 600 pounds $4-6 higher, heifers unevenly steady, except 400-500 pounds $5 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady to $1 higher. Receipts totaled 1649 head.

Domestic Wool Trade
Active, Aussie Higher

Domestic wool trading on a clean basis was active last week, with confirmed sales of 1,656,294 pounds and moderate to good demand. All prices are reported on a weighted average. The following prices reflect confirmed trades of domestic clean wool, f.o.b. the warehouse in original bags or square packs, bellies out, some graded, and 76 millimeters or longer. No allowance is made for coring, freight or handling fees at the warehouse level to reflect net grower prices.

Beef Products Inc. will close processing plants in three states this month because of the controversy surrounding its meat product that critics have dubbed ``pink slime,'' a company official said Monday.

Light slaughter lambs were sharply lower Tuesday, slaughter ewes $2-5 lower, feeder lambs $5-10 lower, nannies firm, kid goats weak to $10 lower. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 3140 head.

Some Amarillo Feeder
Heifers $2 Higher

Comparable sales of seven-weight heifers were $2 higher, other feeder cattle sold with a higher undertone, slaughter cows and bulls steady to firm. Receipts totaled 1321 head.

Oklahoma City Feeder
Cattle $1-3 Higher

Feeder cattle and calves were $1-3 higher. Receipts totaled 9503 head.

Joplin Steer Calves
Steady To $5 Higher

Steer calves were steady to $5 higher, heifer calves steady to $2 higher, yearlings steady. Receipts totaled 4030 head.

Hamilton Kid Goat
Prices Decline $20

Kid goats were $20 lower Monday, nannies steady, wool lambs $40 lower on a light test, Dorper lambs sharply lower, Barbado lambs sharply lower, Barbado ewes $20 lower. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 2944 head.

Fredericksburg Sheep,

Sheep and goat receipts totaled 2150 head.
Sheep: No. 1 feeder lambs 40-60 pounds $155-175, 60-80 pounds $150-165; slaughter lambs 45-80 pounds $170-210, 100-150 pounds $110-128; slaughter ewes $60-85; Barbado lambs 40-60 pounds $150-175; Dorper cross lambs 40-60 pounds $170-210, 60-80 pounds $160-200; Dorper cross ewe lambs $235-265.
