Plains Fed Cattle Price Bids,
Ask Rate $5 Apart At Midweek

Panhandle fed cattle trade was going nowhere at midweek, packers reportedly bidding $115 and feedyards pricing their wares at $120. Last week’s going rate on solid movement was mostly $118 to a few at $118.50, giving up the 50 cents to a dollar the market gained the week before.

Up And Down

San Angelo slaughter lamb prices were quoted steady this week, feeder lambs $5-10 lower. Hamilton wool lambs and Barbado lambs sold steady, Dorper lambs $10 lower. Goldthwaite wool lambs were steady, Dorper and Barbado lambs steady to $5 higher. Fredericksburg lambs sold steady.

Slaughter Meat Goat Prices
Mixed In Most Recent Trade

Slaughter meat goat prices were mixed in most recent trading. Goldthwaite was steady to $5 higher, Fredericksburg $1-2 higher, San Angelo firm, Hamilton $10 lower, and New Holland, Pennsylvania mostly steady to $20 lower per head.

Wool lambs were steady, Dorper and Barbado lambs steady to $5 higher on lambs 75-90 pounds, light kid goats steady, slaughter kids steady to $5 higher, nannies steady. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 1964 head.

Higher, Trend Steady To Lower

Calves and yearlings started out last week on a steady to $3 higher trend across the country; however, mid to late-week auctions trended steady to weak, instances to $3 lower.

Steer calves weighing under 500 pounds were $2-3 higher, steer calves and yearlings over 500 pounds $1-2 lower, heifer calves under 500 pounds steady to $1 higher, heifer calves and yearlings over 500 pounds weak to $2 lower, slaughter cows and bulls mostly steady. Receipts totaled 2483 head.

Feeder steers and heifers under 600 pounds were steady to firm, instances $3 higher, over 600 pounds $3-6 lower except steers 700-750 pounds close to steady, slaughter cows and bulls $2-3 lower. Receipts totaled 1601 head.

Off 2% For The Year

Total red meat supplies in freezers on July 31 were up three percent from the previous month but down two percent from last year.

Feeder steers under 400 pounds were $6-8 lower, 400-600 pounds $6-8 higher, over 600 pounds steady, heifers steady to $6 lower, slaughter cows and bulls steady to $4 higher. Receipts totaled 680 head.

Prices Mostly Firm

Feeder steers and steer calves were mostly firm except several gaunt load lots over 900 pounds $1-2 higher, feeder heifers and heifer calves $2 lower, slaughter cows steady to $1 lower. Receipts totaled 1208 head.

Domestic wool trading on a clean basis was quiet last week, with no confirmed trades.

Prices Trend Higher

The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report for last week showed prices up 64 cents from the previous week at $200.71. A year ago the cutout value was $250.67.

Feeder steers and heifers sold $1-3 lower, steer and heifer calves mostly $2-3 higher. Receipts totaled 7968 head.

4.9% Above A Year Ago

Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 971.9 million pounds, three percent higher than the previous week and 4.9 percent higher than last year. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was 2.1 percent higher than last year.

No price trend was available on feeder cattle, slaughter cows and bulls steady to $2 lower. Receipts totaled 617 head.

Steady To $2 Lower

Steer and heifer calves under 500 pounds were steady to $2 lower, steer and heifer calves over 500 pounds $3-5 lower, yearlings $2-4 lower. Receipts totaled 4608 head.

Lambs Mostly Steady

Lambs sold mostly steady, ewes steady to firm, bucks firm, slaughter kid goats mostly steady to $20 lower per head, slaughter nannies mostly $10-30 lower per head, slaughter bucks unevenly steady, slaughter wethers steady to firm. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 4494 head.

Cattle Decline $4-6

 Feeder steers and heifers were $4-6 lower, steer and heifer calves firm. Receipts totaled 6049 head.

Prices Quoted Firm

Slaughter lambs were steady Tuesday, slaughter ewes firm to $3 higher, feeder lambs $5-10 lower, kid goats firm, nannies $10-15 higher. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 7400 head.

Fredericksburg Lambs
Steady, Kid Goats Up

Lambs were steady, kid goats $1-2 higher. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 3888 head.

Feeder steers were mostly firm, feeder heifers steady to $3 lower, slaughter cows $3 higher, slaughter bulls $4 higher. Receipts totaled 1345 head.
