Plains Fed Cattle Trade Going
Nowhere At Midweek, As Usual

There was nothing doing in Panhandle fed cattle trade at midweek, neither bids nor asking prices fully established, though DTN reported scattered asking prices at $130-131. Last week’s going rate was $128 compared to $130 on the last test three weeks ago.

Most Packer Lamb
Markets Trend Higher

San Angelo slaughter lamb prices were $10-15 higher this week, feeder lambs weak. Goldthwaite wool lambs sold $5 higher, light Dorper and Barbado lambs $10-20 higher, and medium and heavy lambs $5 higher. Hamilton wool and Barbado lambs were steady, Dorper lambs $10 higher. Fredericksburg wool lambs sold $5-10 higher, Dorper lambs $10-20 higher.

Slaughter Meat Goat Prices
Up And Down In Recent Trade

Slaughter meat goat price trends were all over the board in most recent trading. San Angelo was firm to $3 higher and Fredericksburg $5 higher, but Hamilton sold $5 lower, Goldthwaite $10 lower, and New Holland, Pennsylvania was mostly steady on heavy kids but $10-15 lower per head on weights under 60 pounds.

The Noble Foundation is currently in its second year of a study on decreasing the initial slump in weight gain seen by most cattle when turned out on wheat. The results of the first year of the study were provided at the Texoma Cattlemen’s Conference.

Feeder Cattle Higher

Mason and San Saba stocker steers were $3-6 higher, stocker heifers fully $5-15 higher, feeder steers $3-5 higher, feeder heifers $5-10 higher, packer bulls $1 lower, packer cows $2 lower. Knox Brothers yearling Hereford bulls averaged $2225, Angus bulls $2250. Sauer Cattle Company Angus bulls averaged $2413. Receipts totaled 5706 head for the two sales.

Reported $5-7 Higher

Stocker steers were steady to $2 higher, feeder steers $5-7 higher, stocker heifers $4-6 higher, feeder heifers $3-5 higher, packer cows and bulls lower. Receipts totaled 729 head.

Called Strong, Steady

Calf prices were strong and steady, cows steady. Receipts totaled 446 head.

Cattle receipts totaled 1149 head.
Steers: 200-300 pounds $186-206, 300-400 pounds $160-199, 400-500 pounds $146-178, 500-600 pounds $135-165, 600-700 pounds $120-149, 700-800 pounds $115-143, 800-900 pounds $109-134.

Cattle Prices Steady

Steers and heifers were about steady, packer cows and bulls $2 lower. Cattle receipts totaled 512 head.

Cattle receipts totaled 585 head.
Steers: under 300 pounds $175-210, 300-400 pounds $160-195, 400-500 pounds $150-180, 500-600 pounds $135-160, 600-700 pounds $120-150, 700-800 pounds $105-140.

Cattle prices were steady on receipts of 755 head.

Stocker and feeder cattle were steady to firm, packer cows and bulls $2-5 lower, stocker cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 2198 head.

Goat Prices $10 Lower

Wool lambs were $5 higher, light Dorper and Barbado lambs $10-20 higher, medium and heavy lambs $5 higher, light kid goats $10 lower, slaughter kids $5-10 lower, nannies steady. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 2116 head.

Gonzales Calves Sell
Steady To $2-3 Higher

Calves and yearlings were steady to $2-3 higher on the heavier end, packer cows $2 lower. Receipts totaled 637 head.

Graham Auction Sells
1254 Head Of Cattle

Cattle receipts totaled 1254 head.
Steers: under 300 pounds $173-202, 300-400 pounds $168-190, 400-500 pounds $162-180, over 500 pounds $130-160.

Hamilton Lamb Prices
Steady To $10 Higher

Wool and Barbado lambs were steady Monday, Dorper lambs $10 higher, ewes $5 lower, kid goats $5 lower, nannies steady. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 1054 head.

Kid Goats $5 Higher

Wool lambs were $5-10 higher, Dorper lambs $10-20 higher, kid goats $5 higher. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 3240 head.

Feeder cattle were $2-5 higher, slaughter cows $3 lower, slaughter bulls mostly firm. Receipts totaled 859 head.

Nation’s Feeder Cattle Markets
Mostly $3-8 Higher, A Few $9-10

Feeder steers and heifers sold $3-8 higher across the country last week, instances $9-10 higher. Feeder cattle in the Southeast were $2-5 higher. Trade was active on good to very good demand for all classes.

Prices $6-9 Higher

Feeder steers were $6-9 higher, heifers $6-7 higher, slaughter cows $3-6 lower, bulls steady. Receipts totaled 1475 head.

Amarillo Steers Sell
Steady To $3 Higher

Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $3 higher, slaughter cows and bulls $2-3 lower. Receipts totaled 596 head.

Belen Feeder Cattle
Mostly Steady To Off

Feeder steers and heifers were steady to $5 lower except 400-500 pounds $3-5 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady to $3 lower. Receipts totaled 803 head.

Red Meat Production
3.3% Above A Year Ago

Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 955.8 million pounds, .6 percent lower than the previous week and 3.3 percent higher than last year. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was 3.3 percent higher than last year.

Feeder steers and heifers sold $4-8 higher. Receipts totaled 2700 head.

Boxed Beef Cutout
Prices Up Slightly

The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report for last week showed prices up 25 cents from the previous week at $207.21. A year ago the cutout value was $215.65.

Cattle $2-5 Higher

Feeder steers and heifers were $2-5 higher, steer calves $4-5 higher, heifer calves $1 higher. Receipts totaled 5699 head.

Domestic Wool Slow,
Aussie Market Higher

Domestic wool trading on a clean basis was slow last week, with 83,000 pounds of confirmed trades. Shearing is ongoing and core samples are being collected as wool is being offered for sale at this time. Weather has been an issue over the last couple of weeks, and it is estimated that shearing crews overall are about 5-7 days behind schedule due to weather delays.

Steer and heifer calves were $3-10 higher, yearlings $2-6 higher. Receipts totaled 3543 head.

Kids Mostly Steady

Slaughter kid goats weighing less than 60 pounds sold $10-15 lower per head, heavier kids mostly steady, nannies mostly steady to $10 lower per head, bucks $5-15 lower per head, wethers unevenly steady. Goat receipts totaled 1775 head.

San Angelo Slaughter
Lambs $10-15 Higher

Slaughter lambs were $10-15 higher Tuesday, feeder lambs weak, slaughter ewes firm to $3 higher, kid goats firm to $3 higher, nannies steady. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 3182 head.
