Plains Fed Cattle Deals Termed
$5-7 Apart At Midpoint Of Week

Panhandle fed cattle trade had a wide gulf to overcome at midweek, packers reportedly bidding $115 against asking prices of $120-122. Last week’s going rate was a dollar lower at mostly $118 on moderate movement.

Texas Lamb Sales
Steady To Lower

San Angelo slaughter lamb prices were weak to $10 lower on plainer lambs Tuesday, feeder lambs sharply lower. Hamilton lambs sold $20 lower. Fredericksburg lambs were steady. Goldthwaite was closed last Thursday for the Fourth of July. Up in New Holland, Pennsylvania, slaughter lamb prices were mostly $10 higher.

Slaughter Meat Goats Steady
To Lower In Most Recent Trade

Slaughter meat goat prices mostly ranged steady to lower in most recent trading. San Angelo was steady, Fredericksburg $10 lower and Hamilton $20 lower. Goldthwaite was closed Thursday in observance of the Fourth of July, and New Holland, Pennsylvania sold steady to $15 higher per head.

Fully Steady To Higher

Calves and yearlings were fully steady to $1-2 higher, packer cows $1-2 higher. Receipts totaled 1036 head.

Sell At Steady Rate

Calves under 450 pounds were $2-3 lower, heavier calves steady, packer cows and bulls fully steady to $2 higher. Receipts totaled 1168 head.

Cattle receipts totaled 2274 head.
Steers: under 300 pounds $185-215, 300-400 pounds $180-200, 400-500 pounds $170-190, over 500 pounds $150-170.

Calves were steady to $4 lower, packer cows and bulls $2-4 higher. Receipts totaled 1628 head.

Lambs were $20 lower Monday, ewes $10 lower, kid goats $20 lower, nannies $25 lower. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 3343 head.

Lambs were steady, kid goats $10 lower. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 5279 head.

Feeder Cattle Prices Impossible
To Call Amid Holiday Closings

Too few feeder cattle were marketed across the country last week to call a trend as the majority of sale barns took the week off in observance of Independence Day. This week all the major markets will be open for business and should give an indication on trends.

Red Meat Production
2.1% Above A Year Ago

Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 824 million pounds, 15 percent lower than the previous week and 2.1 percent higher than last year. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was 3.1 percent higher than last year.

Aussie Market Higher

Domestic wool trading on a clean basis was slow last week, with 197,392 pounds of confirmed trades.

Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to weak, slaughter cows and bulls mostly $1-2 higher. Receipts totaled 628 head.

Boxed Beef Cutout
Values All Lower

The national comprehensive boxed beef cutout report for last week showed prices down $7.46 from the previous week at $219.58. A year ago the cutout value was $203.12.

Steers and heifers sold steady to $8 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 566 head.

Sedalia, Missouri
Packer Cows Lower

Slaughter cows sold $1-2 lower. Receipts totaled 663 head.
Steers: medium and large No. 1 500-600 pounds $159-163, 700-800 pounds $146-147, 800-900 pounds $138-147.35.

Sell Steady To Lower

Feeder steers and heifers were steady to $2 lower, steer calves steady to $4 lower, heifer calves unevenly steady. Receipts totaled 5500 head.

Joplin Yearling Steer
Prices Steady To Off

Steer calves under 450 pounds were steady, over 450 pounds $2-6 lower, heifer calves under 500 pounds steady to $4 higher, over 500 pounds steady, yearlings steady to $3 lower. Receipts totaled 5088 head.

Forest, Miss. Feeder
Steers Decline $4-8

Feeder steers were $4-8 lower, feeder heifers $3-4 lower, slaughter cows $3-4 higher, slaughter bulls $2-5 higher. Receipts totaled 1764 head.

New Holland Lambs
Mostly $10 Higher

Slaughter lambs were mostly $10 higher, slaughter ewes firm, bucks steady, slaughter kid goats and nannies steady to $15 higher per head, slaughter billies mostly steady, and slaughter wethers steady. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 3336 head.

Angelo Packer Lambs
Weak To $10 Lower

Slaughter lambs were weak to $10 lower on plainer lambs Tuesday, slaughter ewes weak, feeder lambs sharply lower, kid goats and nannies steady. Sheep and goat receipts totaled 7000 head.
