ATKINSON, Neb. — An intensive grazing seminar and tour has been scheduled for Saturday, July 27, on the Brush Creek Ranch near here. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. and the program will run until 4 p.m. Speakers include University of Nebraska Extension educator Terry Gompert; Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association president Jeff Pribbeno; Stockman Grass Farmer editor Allan Nation; and ranch management consultant Bob Steger. Included will be a panel of ranchers who have employed intensive grazing, including Larry Buell, Shovel Dot Ranch, Rose, Neb.; Dr. Lon "Mickey" Keim, Brush Creek Ranch; Marlene Moore, Wallace, Neb.; and John Ravenstock, Valentine, Neb. Brush Creek Ranch has increased its cattle herd from 600 head to 2000 head in six years using intensive grazing, and in the process stabilized sand dunes, increased forage diversity, and enlarged areas of wet meadows.
