Domestic Wool Slow,
Aussie Finewools Up

GREELEY, Colo. —(USDA)— Trading on domestic wool was generally slow last week, limited sales mostly steady. Approximately 75,000 pounds sold at private treaty in Texas, 12-month 64s bringing 65-80 cents grease, f.o.b. the warehouse, crossbred 58s to 62s 50-65 cents and blackface 20-35 cents.

About 300,000 pounds sold at private treaty in Montana, mostly the previous week; fine 62s and 64s brought 82-90 cents grease, f.o.b., a few high yielding lots 90-98 cents and 62-60s 75-76 cents.

Australian auction prices were mixed with 19-21 and 27-30 micron categories 4-16 cents higher while 22-26 micron categories were 3-9 cents lower. The market indicator closed up one cent at 598A cents per kilo clean. Principal buyers were Japan and China with good support from most sectors of the trade. Foreign auctions are now in recess with Australia due to resume July 30.

Texas mohair was in good demand last week, but most producers were reluctant to offer much product. Approximately 75,000 pounds sold with original bag adult at $2 grease, f.o.b. the warehouse and fine kid at $3.50.
