Feeder lambs continued to face price pressure in most areas this week, several spots a couple of dollars off. Long-term lambs are feeling the most decline while fleshy heavies are holding up well.

Texas Kid Mohair Beginning To Move
The U.S. Mohair Marketing board sold all its spring kid mohair at private treaty this week, the first kid hair to move this year. Superfine kid hair brought $3.50 grease, f.o.b. the warehouse, No. 1 kid made $3, and No. 2 kid $2.75.

Feeder Cattle Prices Higher, Following Fat Cattle, Futures
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher in most areas of the country last week. Yearlings, especially those weighing over 850 pounds, found the best demand as feedyards looked at many empty pens and the October fed cattle futures contract, which is over $69.

Feeder steers sold steady to $3 higher, heifers $1-3 higher, slaughter cows $2-3 lower, bulls fully steady. Receipts totaled 765 head.

Cuero Feeder Cattle Prices Move Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold higher in good demand. Receipts totaled 1429 head.

Giddings Feeder Cattle Prices On Strong Side
Feeder calves and yearlings sold strong to higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady to $2 lower. Receipts totaled 1164 head.

U.S. Meat Production 3.7% Below A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 793.7 million pounds, 19.6 percent more than the previous holiday-shortened week and 3.7 percent below the same week a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was .9 percent more than the previous year.

Brownwood, San Saba, Mason Feeders Higher
Feeder steer and heifer calves sold steady to $2 higher in Mason, Brownwood and San Saba last week, steer yearlings steady to $3 higher and heifer yearlings steady to $2 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 4050 head at the three sales.

Most Lampasas Cattle Active, Demand Good
Trading was termed active and demand good after the holiday recess. Receipts totaled 1700 head.

Domestic Wool Slow, Foreign Trading Nil
Trading on domestic wool was generally slow last week, limited sales mostly steady.

One of the recent surveys by the Real Estate Research Center at A&M showed land prices declining in the state, except in the populous part of the hill country. "The statewide drouth" was blamed for the decrease in values. However, the research center showed a 28 percent increase in the rural population and only a full percentage point gain in farm loans.
