Feeder Cattle And Calf Prices
Were Little Changed Last Week

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. —(USDA)— Prices for feeder cattle and calves were little changed across the country from the previous week. The most notable exception was in the western and Mountain states, where prices were steady to $2 higher.

Total numbers offered continued to run well above year-ago totals even though producers located in corn and bean country have stayed in the fields, delaying shipments of both calves and yearlings to market centers. These numbers have created some apprehensiveness following the large placements reported on the last two cattle on feed reports.

Fed cattle prices wound up on about an even keel after high hopes of pushing prices upward on relatively light offerings. Corn prices remained on the soft side. Wheat fields could be good in some areas, but more warm weather is needed, and most fields are still some time away from being ready to graze cattle.

Yearlings accounted for approximately 37 percent of the week's run.
