Domestic Wool Slow,
Aussie Wools Higher

GREELEY, Colo. —(USDA)— Trading on domestic wool was slow under light demand.

Montana’s Yellowstone pool sold 25,000 pounds of whiteface choice 62s, bellies out untied, at 75 cents grease, f.o.b. collection points, 60s at 70 cents, regular style 58/60s at 65 cents, bellies 40 cents, 6000 pounds blackface 54/58s 45 cents.

At private treaty in the western states a near load of choice style 62s brought $1.65-1.70 clean delivered.

Australian auctions were higher each day, the greatest advance on 20-22 micron categories. The eastern market indicator closed up 11 at 575A cents per kilo clean. Wool offered for sale at eastern centers totaled near 27 million pounds and approximately 93 percent sold. At Fremantle eight million pounds was offered and 92 percent sold. Japan, China and Western Europe were principal buyers.

New Zealand auctions were little changed, the market indicator down two at 470NZ cents per kilo clean.

Demand was light for Texas mohair and no new sales were confirmed. South Africa’s Cape sale on Tuesday, October 22, offered 928,000 pounds and only 44 percent sold. Adult mohair was 10 percent lower under a narrow demand, but kid and young goat sold mostly steady with good demand.
