TOPEKA, Kan. — The Kansas Livestock Association will sponsor an estate and business planning seminar Friday, Nov. 22 in Salina. The seven-hour workshop is designed to address situations faced primarily by agricultural operations and businesses. Topics to be covered will include the difference between wills and trusts, transferring family assets, intergenerational business planning, and determining which business structure is best for an ag operation. One of the unique situations to be addressed will be dividing the assets of farms and ranches where one or more children are involved in the operation, while other siblings have chosen off-farm careers. Speakers with years of experience in the field of estate planning will be on the program. The group is led by William Trenkle with the Dodge City law firm of Foulston & Siefkin. Trenkle’s specialty is estate and tax planning. The seminar will take place at the Salina Holidome from 8:30 a.m. to four p.m. Pre-registration price for KLA members is $75 each or $100 per couple, and includes lunch. The non-member rate is $100 for each individual or $135 per couple. The cost will be higher after the November 15 pre-registration deadline. More information is available from the KLA office at (913) 273-5115. |
