Feeder Cattle Prices Higher
Across Nation Again Last Week

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. —(USDA)— Feeder cattle prices, both calves and yearlings, sold steady to $2 higher last week with some calves posting advances of $3-4.

Implications of substantially lower feed costs than in recent months seemed to catch hold as buyers pushed prices for feeders sharply higher to secure needed numbers. Offerings again vastly outpaced the same week last year for the fourth consecutive week.

Fed cattle prices moved $1-2 higher with Kansas and Texas at $72, Iowa and Illinois up to $73, and Nebraska up to $74.

Boxed beef trade moved sharply higher to gain slightly more than $3 for the week. Wheat pastures continued to progress nicely in most areas, but many dryland oat pastures in South Texas are in trouble and in dire need of moisture.

Yearlings weighing over 600 pounds made up approximately 33 percent of the week's run.
