Domestic Wool Slow,
Aussie Wools Lower

GREELEY, Colo. —(USDA)— Trading on domestic wool was rather slow last week under light demand.

At private treaty in the western states around 85,000 pounds of ewes wool 58/60s, bellies out untied, sold at 47.3 cents grease, f.o.b. Near 15,000 pounds of lamb wool, bellies out and untied, brought 41 cents for whiteface, 35 cents for blackface, and 30 cents for bellies. Near 40,000 pounds of ewe wool 60/62s, bellies out untied, made 51 cents. Around 10,000 pounds of spring lamb wool, 1½-2 inches and 18-19 microns, bellies out and untied, was 60 cents grease f.o.b. the feedlots.

Australian auctions were mostly lower, the greatest decline on 19-20 micron categories. The eastern market indicator closed down six cents at 570A cents per kilo clean. Wool offered for sale at eastern centers totaled around 26.5 million pounds and approximately 94 percent sold. At Fremantle 83 percent of a 9.7 million pound offering sold. Japan, China and Western Europe were principal buyers.

New Zealand auctions were one percent lower, the market indicator down three cents at 464NZ cents per kilo clean.
