Nation’s Feeder Cattle Prices
Turned Higher Again Last Week

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. —(USDA)— Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher around the country last week, some $3 up as buyers aggressively sought numbers. Less expensive grain and good wheat pastures in many areas were the major factors encouraging buyers.

Fed cattle prices held at $72 in the Southern Plains, but the Northern Plains saw prices as high as $75 for offerings grading high percentage choice. Numbers of feeders sold this week reached mammoth proportions as the fall run reached full swing. In fact, numbers on this particular report are the largest for any week since mid-November, 1986.

Many feedlots are filling fast. Yearlings weighing over 600 pounds made up approximately 35 percent of the run.
