WASHINGTON —(USDA)— Total U.S. red meat supplies in freezers on October 31 decreased four percent from September and were down 11 percent from October 1995. Total beef supplies at 292,383,000 pounds were down six percent from September and 25 percent less than a year ago. Veal at 6,949,000 pounds was up seven percent from September but seven percent less than a year ago. Lamb and mutton at 17,472,000 pounds was down two percent from September but up 16 percent from a year ago. Frozen pork stocks at 330,582,000 pounds were three percent below last month, but three percent above last year. Stocks of pork bellies were up 28 percent from last month and were 20 percent above last year's level. Total frozen poultry supplies declined four percent from last month, but were eight percent above last year. Total stocks of chicken increased one percent during the month and were 14 percent above 1995. Total pounds of turkey in freezers declined eight percent from last month, but were up three percent from last year. |
