Uneven Trends Marked Feeder
Cattle Trade Across Country

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. —(USDA)— No clear-cut nationwide trend for feeder calf or yearling prices emerged last week; from area to area, prices bounced on either side of steady money but generally averaged steady to $1 higher.

After several weeks of higher prices, uneasiness crept into the marketplace, particularly late in the week.

Corn, at least for the time being, halted its downward price slide, pens are filling fast at feedyards, and numbers for wheat pastures generally are already bought. Fed cattle struggled during the week and late sales in the high plains ended up around the $69-70 level, $2-3 below the previous week.

Yearlings weighing more than 600 pounds accounted for approximately 34 percent of the week's run.
