WASHINGTON —(USDA)— Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter Nov. 1 in the seven leading feeding states totaled 8.54 million head, one percent above the same date last year and seven percent above Nov. 1, 1994. Seven-state placements during October totaled 2.53 million, 11 percent above October of last year and 13 percent above the same period two years ago. October marketings in the seven states totaled 1.42 million, down seven percent from last year and six percent from October 1994. Other disappearance came to 57,000 head, up 12 percent from last year and 21 percent above October two years ago. USDA’s broader nationwide tally of feedlots with a capacity of 1000 head or more totaled 10.07 million head on feed Nov. 1. October placements in those feedlots totaled 2.99 million head, net placements 2.91 million. Placements weighing less than 600 pounds came to 834,000 head, 600-699 pounds 724,000 head, 700-799 pounds 822,000 head, and 800 pounds and heavier 609,000 head. October marketings in the broader tally came to 1.68 million, other disappearance 78,000. The new tally has only been reported since the beginning of the year, so historical comparisons are not yet available. Statistics for the seven leading states, compared to last year: Cattle on feed: Arizona 224,000 head, up eight percent; California 355,000, down four percent; Colorado 1,090,000, up seven percent; Iowa 315,000, down 11 percent; Kansas 2,170,000, up three percent; Nebraska 1,890,000, up seven percent; Texas 2,500,000, down three percent. Placements: Arizona 51,000, down 25 percent; California 55,000, down 15 percent; Colorado 270,000, down one percent; Iowa 105,000, up six percent; Kansas 610,000, up 27 percent; Nebraska 640,000, up 17 percent; Texas 800,000, up eight percent. Marketings: Arizona 27,000, down 18 percent; California 50,000, up 11 percent; Colorado 135,000, down 27 percent; Iowa 49,000, down 23 percent; Kansas 350,000, down four percent; Nebraska 310,000, down six percent; Texas 495,000, down one percent. Other disappearance: Arizona 1000, unchanged; California 5000, unchanged; Colorado 5000, unchanged; Iowa 1000, unchanged; Kansas 5000, up 300 percent; Nebraska 19,000, down 47 percent; Texas 15,000, unchanged. |
