Texas for March delivery three loads of No. 1 crossbred
steers to weigh 750 pounds at $77; in Northeast Texas for
January one load of No. 1-1½ crossbred heifers to weigh
600 for $74.50; in the Texas Panhandle for March delivery
three loads of No. 1 Okie and exotic cross steers to
weigh 775 at $2 back of the March board, also three loads
of similar heifers to weigh 725 at $4.25 back of the
board, and for current delivery one load of No. 1 Okie
and exotic cross steers weighing 750 at $75.
USDA reports 2136 head of feeder cattle selling direct
off Oklahoma range, including: for May 1998 delivery
medium and large No. 1 steers to weigh 775 pounds at $76;
for March similar heifers to weigh 725 pounds at
$74-74.50; for current delivery steers weighing 750 at
$76 and 800-825 pounds at $74-76; similar heifers
weighing 725-750 at $72-73.
Direct feeder cattle trade in the Northwest as
confirmed by USDA totaled 2220 head. Medium and large No.
1 steers weighing 600-650 pounds brought $81-84 f.o.b.
Washington, Oregon and Idaho, 875 pounds $76.50-77 f.o.b.
Washington and Oregon; similar heifers weighing 550-600
pounds were $76 f.o.b. Washington and Oregon, 675 pounds
$70-71 f.o.b. Washington and Oregon, 750 pounds $71.50
delivered in Idaho, 825 pounds $73 f.o.b. Oregon, and
850-875 pounds $69 f.o.b. Idaho.
Montana direct feeder cattle sales by USDA count came
to 1820 head. Medium and large No. 1 steers weighing
500-530 pounds made $88-89, 600-650 pounds $83-86, and
750-800 pounds $74-76; similar heifers weighing 580-600
were $77-78, a couple of loads weighing 650 at $78.
