Al Smith of Hereford, Texas, is reported to have bought 200 plain Brahman steer yearlings weighing 700 pounds from Joe Vestal of Astola, Texas, at $13.50 cwt., to put in feedlots at Hereford.

Walton Kothmann of Menard has bought and shipped five carloads of lambs. Kothmann said lambs are selling at "15 cents a pound, more for the heavier kinds." Ewes cost from $5 to $7 each, he said.

Gene Benson of Alpine has bought 90 steer calves weighing 447 pounds from L.H. Lockhart of Fort Stockton at 23 cents a pound. He also bought a part load of steer yearlings weighing around 600 pounds from Bill Sohl of Alpine at 23 cents.

Jack Sloan of San Saba has sold through Roy Harkey and Homer Hobdy of San Angelo, 100 mixed, Brahman-type fat calves to M Systems Grocery chain of San Angelo at 23 cents delivered this week and weighing around 425 pounds.

Malcolm S. Major of Butte Valley, Colorado, recently sold to the Bob Mayer Company, Denver, one carlot of top-quality yearling steers weighing 648 pounds at $25.25 cwt.

Paul Newman of Lubbock, Texas, bought one load of purebred horned cows weighing near 1000 pounds, with 400-pound calves on them, at $250 per pair from Gene Fullingem of Petersburg.

Joe Lemley, San Angelo, bought 100 mixed Angus calves this week from Jack Harding of Pecos and Son Powell of Big Spring. They weighed 475 pounds and brought $22 and $25.

J.D. Pitman Jr., Hereford, Texas, bought 247 good quality steer calves weighing 351 pounds at $27 cwt. from Wallace Locke of Amarillo and received them last week.

A.N. Dilley of Borger, Texas, sold to Rogers & Brown, Snyder, 246 mixed age stocker cows at $150 each and 13 three year-old bulls at $225 each.

Good and choice slaughter lambs topped at $17.50 carrying No. 1 and No. 2 pelts in Fort Worth and were quoted around $17 at country points. Some choice lambs with an end of prime brought up to $18 in the Roswell area for shipment to Texas plants, including Armour in San Angelo.

Cattle and calves on feed Nov. 1 in the seven leading feeding states totaled 8.12 million, up 14 percent from a year ago and four percent from two years ago. It was the largest Nov. 1 figure since 1978, USDA reported.

Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was an estimated 751.5 million pounds, 1.4 percent below the previous week and 4.2 percent above the same week a year ago.

Bill Porter, representing Bluegrass Cattle Co., Bowling Green, Ky., sold out of various Southeast shipping points on a delivered basis to an Oklahoma buyer one load of No. 1½ multi-colored steers and bulls weighing 445 pounds at $86.38; to Texas buyers three loads of No. 1-plus heifers weighing 285 at $291 per head and one load of "semi-short" steers and bulls weighing 650 at $72.
