Texas Panhandle for June 1998 delivery 500 No. 1
crossbred steers to weigh 750 pounds at $79.40 and an
additional 500 head of the same cattle for the same
delivery at $1 back of the May futures board; in North
Texas for May 3000 No. 1-1½ Okie and crossbred heifers
to weigh 700 at $76 delivered to the Panhandle; for March
delivery in West Texas 170 No. 1 crossbred steers to
weigh 750 at $77; for current delivery in Southern
Oklahoma 450 No. 1 English-exotic cross heifers weighing
750 at $70.25.
Ty Jones Cattle Co., Canyon, bought in New Mexico 200
choice steer calves weighing 525-550 pounds at $82, also
220 No. 1 Okie and crossbred steers weighing 800-825 at
$74.
USDA reports 3260 head of feeder cattle selling direct
off Oklahoma range, including: for March through May 1998
delivery medium and large No. 1 steers to weigh 800
pounds at $78-79; for February similar heifers to weigh
725 at $77; for current delivery fancy black and black
baldy steers weighing 490 pounds at $88.50 delivered and
550 pounds at $87.50 delivered, also 150 head of 775
pound medium and large No. 1 steer yearlings at $76.50
and 800-835 pounds $73-77; similar heifers weighing
700-775 pounds were $69-71 and 800-825 pounds $66-68.
Direct feeder cattle trade in the Northwest as
confirmed by USDA totals 1620 head moved late last week.
Medium and large No. 1 steers weighing 600-650 pounds
brought $81-84 f.o.b. Washington, Oregon and Idaho, 700
pounds $75 f.o.b. Washington, and 875 pounds $76.50-77
f.o.b. Washington and Oregon; similar heifers weighing
550-600 pounds were $76 f.o.b. Washington and Oregen,
650-700 pounds $70-71 f.o.b. Washington and Oregon, 825
pounds f.o.b. Oregon, and 850-875 pounds f.o.b. Idaho.
Montana direct feeder sales tallied by USDA came to
910 head, including 400 head of medium and large No. 1
steers weighing 550-575 pounds at $85-86, and 295 head of
similar heifers weighing 550-575 at $76-77; 215 bred
heifers weighing 950-1000 pounds made $800-900 per head.
