Texas jokes over the years, but there have always
been serious stockmen in those regions. These
yearlings near Texarkana show a variety of
colors, yet most of them appear to reflect a
Continental heritage that is appreciated in
Plains feedlots. They also have hair, for the

strength in most Midwest markets this holiday-shortened
week. Most Texas markets were closed for the holiday

Feeder steers and heifers sold $2-3 higher, slaughter
cows and bulls steady, bred stock cows and heifers $25
higher, pairs steady to $50 higher.

Heifers Bring $799 Per Head
A total of 567 heifers, bred AI or naturally to Angus
bulls, averaged $799.14 per head here at the first
replacement heifer sale conducted by Holmes Farms Inc.

Hereford Bulls Brings $1982
The 43rd annual Highland Hereford Bull Sales offered 45
bulls from four area breeders and the average sale price
was $1982.22.
