45 YEARS AGO
A.S. Patterson of Roswell is reported to have sold
about four loads of fed lambs with No. 1 pelts to Stanley
Nielson, buyer for Swift, at $19.50 cwt.

S.A. DeJarnett of Dalhart sold 154 mixed calves,
crossbred Angus-Herefords, to Harris Mullin, also of
Dalhart, at 21 cents per pound straight across. These
calves, delivered January 3, averaged 457 pounds.

Ray White of Roswell, buyer for the Ogden Producers,
bought two loads of fed lambs with No. 1 pelts from Tom
White, also of Roswell, at $19 cwt. White also bought a
load of wooled feeder lambs weighing about 70 pounds off
the range from Jim Vandewart of Roswell at $16.75 cwt.

Charlie Silver of Morton, Texas, sold 40 mixed
yearlings weighing about 700 pounds to O.E. Joiner of
Lubbock at $22.50 for delivery early this week.

G.W. Williams of Bovina, Texas, sold two loads of
stocker cows at 14 cents per pound and two bulls at 17
cents to Tony Dowlin of Amarillo.

Clayton Tinney of Altus, Okla., sold 2100 choice
quality heifer yearlings expected to weigh 650 to 700
pounds at $23 for March 15 to May 15 delivery, seller's
option, to a feeder at Lamar, Colo. These heifers are
described as choice quality. They'll be delivered off
wheat fields.

Jack Stewart of Hedley, Texas, and Fontaine Elmore of
Clarendon sold 77 mixed calves averaging 390 pounds at
$25 and $27 to Kenneth LaFon, Amarillo, delivered the
last of December.

Ercy Cubine of McLean, Texas, bought 150 heifer calves
weighing 400 pounds at $24 and received them Dec. 31 from
David Bean of Miami, Texas.

J.R. Yell of Dumas, Texas, sold 77 heifer yearlings
weighing about 600 pounds at $22.50 for Jan. 8 delivery
to Jack Elliot and Tom Moran of Dumas.

During Christmas week about 5000 lambs sold to Los
Angeles packers at $23 for January and February delivery.
Last week, another 10,000 head sold at $23.50.

In New Mexico, the Frank A. Hubbell Co. clip of
137,000 pounds of 12-months wool sold through the Wool
Warehouse Co., Albuquerque, to Max Riley of Roswell for
The Top Co. at 43 cents.

John Cargile, San Angelo ranchman and auction
operator, has announced construction of a new 2000-head
cattle feedlot has begun on land he recently acquired
east of San Angelo, on the Ballinger Highway, at the Tom
Green-Runnels County line. To be called San Angelo Feed
Yard, the new facility will handle cattle owned by
Cargile and his associates as well as handling outside
cattle on custom basis.

Triplett Cattle Co. of Amarillo bought 150 short
yearling steers weighing 507 pounds at $29 from Neal
Jackson of Stratford.

Fort Worth quoted good and choice wooled and shorn
lambs $18.75-19.25 early in the week. Country auctions
listed fat lambs as high as $18.75.

Herschel Berry of Dumas sold 61 heifer yearlings
weighing 538 pounds at $25 and delivered them to Fred
Bauer of Denver, Colo.

Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the
39 feeding states on Jan. 1 this year were estimated at
11,451,000 head, up two percent from a year earlier.

The 11 western states had 2,798,000 head on feed Jan.
1, 1968, up one percent from a year earlier. California,
the leading Western state, was down eight percent, and
Colorado, the second ranking state, was up five percent;
Idaho, Nevada and Oregon showed decreases and the other
states had increases ranging from three percent in
Arizona to 32 percent in New Mexico.

weighing 1000 pounds and grading 75 percent choice at $26
to a Texas packer.
