Lambs Find
Soft Prices
Feeder lamb prices failed to find any stimulus this
week with most prices a little on the soft side. Fat
lambs were also a little lower, due in part to a sluggish
dressed trade.
Slaughter ewes were steady in the Midwest but a little
higher in Texas.
Newcrop lamb numbers showed a substantial jump in most
Texas markets, most outlets showing two or three times
the number in recent sales.
Dressed lamb last week was steady as it has been for
the last six weeks. The distributive trade has shown some
improvement, but mostly just firming. The carcass cutout
value has recovered $3-4 since the last of February.

week, 65 and up $164.34.

pounds. Lamb and mutton passed for entry into the United
States last week totaled 986 metric tons, or about 37
percent of domestic production. Year to date entry was
10,834 metric tons compared to domestic production of
57.4 million pounds, or 41 percent of domestic
production.
