Barnes And Cooper Take Team
Roping Event In San Angelo

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Team roping legends Jake Barnes and Clay O’Brien Cooper have struck again. The seven-time world champion team ropers were at the head of the line when checks were handed out after the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo ended a five-day, $151,000 run recently in San Angelo, Texas.

After winning their seven world titles, the pair parted in 1996. But they’re roping together again in 1998 and are showing the same style that earned them gold buckles. The San Angelo win placed the two just out of the Top 15 in the Crown Royal team roping standings and increases their chances for a 15th National Finals Rodeo qualification.

Six-time world all-around champion Ty Murray, Stephenville, rode his way to an all-around title in San Angelo. Murray placed in all three roughstock events to earn $4493. Murray currently leads the race in the Crown Royal standings for the all-around title with winnings to date totaling $45,378. He is followed by Trevor Brazile, Decatur, Texas, with $25,079; Herbert Theriot, Poplarville, Miss., $21,504; Brad Goodrick, Everett, Wash., $13,686; and Tee Woolman, Llano, Texas, $12,520.
