OBI Test Sale Bulls
Avg. $1987 Per Head
STILLWATER, Okla. The annual spring Oklahoma
Beef Inc. All Breed Performance-Tested Bull Sale earlier
this month averaged $1987 on consignments of 241.33 head.
Last springs average was $2051 on 299 head.
Potential herd sires sold by breed included 213.33
head of Angus bulls at an average price of more than
$2033; 13 Herefords at an average of $1583; nine Brangus
at an average of $1711; five Simmentals at an average of
$1430; and one Limousin, which brought $2750.
Two Angus bulls tied for high-selling honors, each
bringing $5000. An Angus bull consigned by Mark Johnson
of Stillwater was purchased by L.D. Farms of Texarkana,
Texas, and an Angus bull consigned by Joseph Krause of
Ada was purchased by Max Hoskins of Lawton.
The high-selling Hereford bull was consigned by
Wildwood Ranch of Joplin, Mo., and sold to David Hawkins
of Boynton for $2650.
Sproul Brangus of Isabella consigned the top-selling
Brangus bull, purchased for $2700 by Dr. T.J. Nidiffer of
Overland Park, Kan.
For the second consecutive spring sale, Nimmo Farms of
Ponca City consigned the high-selling Simmental, which
sold for $2500 to Darrel and Linda Nivens of Coyle.
Express Ranch of Yukon consigned the sole Limousin
bull, purchased by Scott Linsenmeyer of Glencoe for
$2750.
"The merits of performance testing are taking
hold in many commercial cow-calf operations," said
Sally Dolezal, Oklahoma State University Cooperative
Extension beef cattle breeding specialist and OBI
executive secretary. "Each year, more and more
cattle producers are using available performance
information in conjunction with visual appraisals to make
the most potentially profitable selection of herd
sires."
