Walton Kothmann of Menard Monday bought around 4000 oldcrop lambs, mostly fleshy feeders, at Lampasas, Lometa and Menard at 18 to 19 cents a pound.

Lem Jones of Junction and Thomas Degan of San Antonio this week bought 100 aged Brahman cows with calves from Frank McGill of Alice at $90 a pair.

W.H. Kimble bought from Earl Cox, Bushland, Texas, 42 heifer yearlings weighing 640 pounds at $15.50.

Guy Gearhart of Post, Texas, this week bought 160 Hereford steer yearlings from F.R. Miller of Kent County at 19 cents a pound; these were shipped to Wyoming on order.

G.W. Clark of Amarillo is reported to have sold 75 steer yearlings averaging 573 pounds to Anderson-Clayton Company at Abilene, Texas, at $22 cwt., May 1 delivery. These cattle will be used by the company for feed experiments.

40 YEARS AGO

Bravo Ranch Co., Romero, Texas, sold 135 Angus steer yearlings expected to weigh about 700 pounds when delivered Oct. 15 at $26 to Cotton McDade, Clayton, N.M.

Sol Bouziden and Pete Leslie of Alva, Okla., sold 1000 two year-old steers expected to weigh about 1000 pounds for delivery Sept. 1 at $24 to an Amarillo buyer.

Halsell Cattle Co., Muleshoe, is reported to have sold the "Mashed O" mixed calves, 1200 head or more, for fall delivery to a Pampa, Texas, buyer at $29 for heifers and $31 for steers.

J.T. Easley of Lovington, N.M., sold one load of bulls, fed about 100 days and weighing 1250 pounds, at $22.50, delivered last week to a Deming packer.

In the Belle Fourche, S.D., area 1800 whiteface yearling ewes recently sold for Oct. 1 delivery at $25 per head, and 200 whiteface yearling ewes sold at the same price for immediate delivery in the wool, reports the Bank of Belle Fourche.

Wendell Sterrett of Roswell sold and delivered 100 head of choice Hereford steer yearlings weighing about 675 pounds at $24 to Sol Bouziden of Alva, Okla.

Raymond Welch, Canyon, sold 73 choice quality steer yearlings averaging 558 pounds at $26.75 and delivered them to V. Lee Matney of Amarillo.

D.A. Borth of Dalhart sold 225 heifer yearlings described as choice Herefords weighing about 625 pounds at $23 cwt. and delivered them to Colorado feeders.

Jim Monroe of Hereford, Texas, bought 170 choice quality Hereford heifers weighing about 390 pounds at $112.50 per head from Lloyd Wright of Yeso, N.M., through Rusty Armstrong of Roswell. These were bought for breeding herd replacements.

Wright also sold 83 Hereford-Angus crossbred mixed calves weighing 345 pounds at $31 to $33 to a Roswell area farmer.

The largest cattle slaughter in two months pushed last week's estimated red meat production to 580 million pounds, two percent above the previous week and six percent above the same week a year ago.

Nortex Feedlot Co., Dalhart, sold 203 steers weighing 1150 pounds and grading 70 percent choice at $26 to an Oklahoma packer.

Chow Tex Feed Yards, Muleshoe, sold 142 good 625-pound heifers at $25.50 to a South Texas packer.

Texline Commercial Cattle Feeders, Texline, Texas, sold 156 good and choice 1050-1075 pound steers at $25.50 to an out-of-state packer.

Ernest Langenegger & Son, Hagerman, N.M., sold 800 steers weighing 1100 and grading 70 percent choice at $25.75 to a Los Angeles packer.

Ozona Wool & Mohair Co. sold about 150,000 pounds out of 170,000 offered at sealed bid. The eight months sold mostly for 85-90 cents a pound, one lot $1.03. The 12 months sold for 87-95 cents, one lot to $1.04.

The Texas State CowBelles held their first annual meeting at Lubbock and there wasn't a ding-a-ling in the crowd; instead, their message rang out loud and clear: "We support our men in the beef industry and we want to help all Americans appreciate the economy of eating beef."

Buck Sumners, Dalhart, bought in the Dalhart area 300 No. 1 Okie steers weighing 575 pounds at $54.50.

Dalhart Feeding Club, Dalhart, bought through the Dalhart auction 101 black baldface heifers weighing 532 pounds at $49 to be fed at Nortex Feedlot Co., Dalhart.

Dickinson Cattle Co., Lubbock, sold to a Colorado buyer from its ranch near Lovington 188 Hereford and black baldface heifers weighing 640 pounds at $46.

Owen Smith, Rosebud, sold off oatfields in that area 1350 No. 1 Okie and better heifers weighing about 625-650 pounds at $50 to Thigpen Cattle Co., Chilton.

Rains came to a large portion of West Texas and rescued some seriously dry pastures. Most pastures got a spurt in vegetation growth, and area lamb movement was cut back.
