Lloyd owned a 'brennel' steer, but not on purpose. "Brennel" cattle, or brindle, as some would say, were automatically regarded as crazy and wild 30 years ago in north Georgia. Any cowman who knowingly bought brennel cattle was looked upon with suspicion.

Three or four months ago, a guy rented the coliseum in San Angelo to present a program he calls Dead Doctors Don't Lie. I wanted to go hear him. His cassettes come in the mail. The one I listened to insinuated that he had discovered a cure for about everything going around this day and age, except maybe the widespread, eternal epidemic of insubordination by teenagers and the wider-spread shortage of parking spaces in the cities.

The fact that several unorganized groups of cattlemen in various parts of the country have expressed themselves as wanting some sort of government aid despite unanimous opposition to this sort of thing from recognized cattle organizations is not especially surprising.
