45 YEARS AGO
E.D. Caskey of Amarillo bought 150 steer yearlings
weighing 457 pounds at $15.30 cwt. from Charlie Ford of
Amarillo. They were delivered last Saturday and went to
grass in northern New Mexico.

Bill SoRelle of Amarillo sold 130 cows and calves at
$132.50 per pair to Shelton and Chamberlain of Clarendon.
The cows were four to six years old and were loaded June
11 at Plainview, Texas.

Jack Richardson of Uvalde has bought 1000 cows and
calves in that area for shipment to a 2500-acre
plantation he has leased in Louisiana. The cattle he
bought were drouth-distress stock, he said, and cost $75
to $100 per pair, some as little as $50.

stockmen of Central Texas, where he and his family have
long been prominent producers of sheep, cattle and goats.

Don Kuper of Dalhart sold two loads of feeder steers
weighing 775 pounds at $27, no cut, delivered last week
to an Illinois buyer. He also sold, to the same buyer,
200 steers for Oct. 1-10 delivery at $26, no cut,
expected to weigh around 825 pounds at delivery.

Bravo Ranch Co., Nara Visa, N.M., sold 100 Angus steer
calves to Cotton McDade, Clayton, for Nov. 1 delivery at
$31 cwt.; these are expected to weigh near 500 pounds.

Boots Harlan, Clayton, N.M., bought 135 Angus heifer
and steer calves expected to weigh around 450 pounds for
Oct. 1-15 delivery at $30.25 for the heifers and $32.25
for the steers, from J.H. Anglin & Son, Clayton.

Doug Dettle and Roy Mitchell of Stratford, Texas, are
reported to have sold and delivered about 90 choice
quality steer yearlings weighing 600 pounds at $28.35 to
a Clayton, N.M. buyer.

Floyd Fairleigh of Scott City, Kan., said 1.3 inches
of rain fell at Scott City last Sunday and north of there
a 6-inch deluge of rain and hail covered a strip two or
three miles wide and 60 miles long; he said it ruined
wheat where it fell and hurt corn, but the latter will
come back.
