Feeder Cattle Prices Firm Up
After Weeks In Downward Trend

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. —(USDA)— Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $1 higher around the country last week, occasionally $2 up after several weeks of lower price trends.

Numbers offered were typical of seasonal supply with only meager receipts at most market centers.

Fed cattle moved $1 higher in a forced affair with a peak of $65 on the High Plains. Packer buyers drug their feet the whole way, and rolled bids back as soon as minimum numbers were secured. Showlists were not cleaned up and a moderate number were carried forward again.

Rain covered substantial portions of the Southwest and Midwest, but amounts in Texas and southern Oklahoma did little more than settle the dust.

Yearlings included in the week's light run accounted for approximately 51 percent of the total.
