Domestic Wool Quiet,
Foreign Trade Higher

GREELEY, Colo. —(USDA)— Domestic wool trading was nearly at a standstill last week, demand and seller interest both light at lower prices levels, whether on a grease or clean basis.

In Territory trading: Wyoming — 80,000 pounds, bellies out and untied, staple length, average yield 22.6-23 micron brought $1.70 clean, delivered to processor, 23.1-24.5 micron $1.60, 40,000 pounds, bellies out and untied, staple length, 26-27 micron, average yield $1.20, 38,000 pounds of 23 micron, bellies out and untied, average yield, staple, 75 cents; Montana — Bridger pool, 20,000 pounds 23-24 micron staple length, 65.5 cents, bellies 30 cents and tags 15 cents. Beaverhead pool — 1428 whiteface 60-62's 65 cents, 1435 blackface and smutface 50-56's 38 cents and bellies 30 cents; Oregon — 43,000 pounds original bag, bellies in, 3-3.5 inch wool 26.4-31 micron 41 cents grease; Idaho — 15,000 pounds 29-30 micron, staple, 40 cents grease.

The Australian market indicator closed the week up four cents at 588A cents per kilo clean, 19-21, 23 and 24 micron fibers rose 1-6 cents, 22 and 31 micron fibers were up 11 and 25 cents while 25, 26, 28 and 29 micron fibers eased 1-3 cents. Clearance was 79 percent on a total offering of 42,869 bales. The stockpile now totals 1,146,100 bales. Futures 21 micron contract: June closed 10 cents higher at 674 and August was down one cent at 650.

The New Zealand market indicator rose 44 cents following a recess last week. Strong wool was up 34 cents at 421, lamb wool up 26 cents at 507.

A total of 9760 bales were offered with clearance at 97 percent.
