WILD HORSES are playing havoc on western ranges where their sheer numbers have overwhelmed forage resources, but under more controlled conditions their presence has proven a boon to some stockmen. These horses are among 1500 head that graze Osage grass on the John Hughes ranch near Bartlesville, Okla., where a contract to help the government board some of its excess equines is a welcome supplement to none-too-shiny cattle income.

Lamb Prices Continue Sharp Decline
Fat and feeder lamb prices continued their free-fall this week with most declines on fats in the $5-12 range and feeders $5-8 off. Apparently the bottom of the barrel hasn’t been reached yet.

Plains Fed Cattle $1 Lower; Losses Grind Feeders Down

Kansas Feeder Cattle Trade Generally Slow
Not enough feeder cattle changed hands in Kansas direct trade for an adequate test; a few steers were $2 lower, the heifer undertone lower as well.

U.S. Meat Production .2% Below A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 831.9 million pounds, 1.9 percent less than a week earlier and .2 percent below a year ago.

Most Cuero Feeder Steers Sell Lower
Feeder steers weighing under 300 pounds sold $3-5 lower, 300-400 pounds steady, over 400 pounds $2 lower, heifers steady, slaughter cows 50 cents lower.

Fredericksburg Feeder Steers, Heifers Higher
Feeder steers and heifers sold $2-4 higher, slaughter cows and bulls strong. Receipts totaled 982 head.

Most Milano Cattle Prices Hold Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, slaughter cows steady, bulls steady to $1 lower. Receipts totaled 1525 head.

Most Goldthwaite Sheep, Goats Lower
Feeder lambs sold $6-8 lower, slaughter ewes $3-4 lower, bucks steady, stock ewes steady; slaughter Angora goats $2-4 lower; stock Spanish nannies steady, kids steady to $2 lower, slaughter nannies and billies steady, muttons steady to $3 higher, slaughter Angoras mostly $2-4 lower.

Most Lampasas Cattle Prices Termed Lower
Feeder steers and heifers sold $5-7 lower, slaughter cows and bulls $1-3 lower. Receipts totaled 806 head.
