45 YEARS AGO

Larkin Renick of Llano and Jim Mueller of Mason this week bought and shipped to Northern feeders, 400 good and choice steer yearlings weighing 550 to 825 pounds at $15 to $16.50 cwt., depending on weight and condition.

Coy Holt of Gruver is reported to have sold 200 mixed yearlings weighing over 600 pounds to Corn Belt feeders at 15 cents a pound straight across.

Creep feeding lambs paid off this year for Frank Bond of Sonora. He recently delivered 92 fat lambs to Armour which had been sorted from 108 head; 60 of them graded "star" and sold at $21 f.o.b. Sonora, and the rest, grading "banner" brought $19.50. They averaged 83 pounds.

Aubrey Grouskay of Phoenix sold, to Cudahy Packing Company of San Diego, one load of crossbred Brahman steers at $19.

Leasel and Ted Harris of San Angelo sold about five loads of feeder lambs weighing around 65 pounds at $13.50 cwt.

40 YEARS AGO

Ray Barber of Amarillo bought, on order, 100 heifer calves and 200 steer calves in the Corona, N.M. area at $28 and $30 for October delivery. These are expected to weigh about 400 pounds.

Edgar Kempson of Dumas, Texas, sold 96 mixed calves for October delivery at $30 straight across, to weigh in Dumas without shrink, to Tom Herbert of Dumas; the calves are expected to weigh 450-475 pounds.

Harry Cone of Canyon, Texas, bought one load of 504-pound heifer yearlings at $24.50 from F.S. Gilliam, Canyon, and received them this week.

The Stewart Ranch at Shattuck, Okla., is reported to have sold about 200 choice steer calves for fall delivery at $32, expected to average near 425 pounds.

Kenneth Cook of Vega, Texas, bought 75 yearling heifers averaging 700 pounds at $24, immediate delivery, from T.O. Pugh of Boise City, Okla.

Ranchers Feed Yards, Ft. Stockton, Texas, sold and delivered three loads of steers averaging 1000 pounds at $23 f.o.b. the lots to a Louisiana packer.

Shirley Fox of Amarillo sold 650 Okie type steer yearlings weighing near 700 pounds at $22 to a Phoenix buyer.

Average cost of feeder steers over 500 pounds at 10 major markets last week was $22.77 compared with $23.38 a year ago.

Z.A. McCasland of Clovis sold 46 fed heifers weighing 658 pounds at $23.75 to an eastern packer.

Triplett Feeding Co., Bovina, sold two loads of good and choice fed steers weighing 1200-1225 at $22.50 to Wayne Yocum of Hereford, buying for Wilson & Co., Oklahoma City.

W.H. Wardlaw, Del Rio, sold 1650 blackface lambs at $22.50 to David Winters, Del Rio, from the Standard Ranch. Pay weight was 70 pounds.

Ralph Britten, Groom, bought 320 Hereford and Angus mixed calves weighing about 230 pounds at $76 and $86 per head from John Nix and Mac Kehoe, Texline.
