Beef Co-Op One Step
Closer To Reality

RAPID CITY, S.D. —(AP)— A planned beef processing plant in the Black Hills is apparently a step closer to reality.

Representatives from Northern Plains Premium Beef and the U.S. Department of Agriculture met last week to work on details of the partnership.

Officials said the plant should be up and running by October 1999, employing 150 to 200 people and processing 130,000 head of cattle a year.

Since the company is a producer-owned cooperative, it needs a business plan that keeps in mind the interests of its members.
