Nation’s Feeder Cattle Prices
Worked Lower Again Last Week

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. —(USDA)— Feeder steers and heifers were steady to $2 lower across the country last week, instances $3-4 off on calves. Oklahoma City proved to be about the only bright spot with prices for yearlings moving steady to $2 higher.

Buyers had little to get enthused about other than moderately lower corn prices, as fed cattle prices struggled and feedyards refused to chase replacements. Continued hot, dry weather in Texas, southern Oklahoma, and parts of the Southeast plagued producers in those areas.

The major summer grazing areas of the Osage and Flint Hills are still in pretty good shape and continue to catch some rain from time to time. Movement of short season cattle off these areas is in full swing.

Fed cattle prices fought their way back to the $60 level and showlists were nearly depleted. Yearlings made up approximately 51 percent of the week's run.
