"The only way I can see for a man
to keep from going crazy worrying about the
government debt, emergency relief, subsidies, and
so forth," said John, "is to laugh the
whole thing off and quit thinking about it
all." |

Pokin' Fun
A Kentucky fiddler friend of mine
wrote the following story, and I was so taken by
it that I asked permission to print it. Although
it could have turned into a terrible tragedy,
Jack Kerr chose to look upon it in retrospect as
a "dodged-a-bullet" memory builder. |

The museum's trip left the hotel in
Johannesburg before daybreak. The flight to
Windhoek in Namibia requires passing from South
Africa customs and being admitted by Namibia
customs; thus airlines require a two-hour
check-in before flight time. |

My name is Lee and I'm a tool-a-holic. I
admit it. Going into a tool store for me is like
a woman making a pilgrimage to Nordstroms. I
belong to the Tool of the Month Club and own
gadgets I've never used. This qualifies me to
answer the question ... "What does every
rancher need in a well stocked tool box?" |

Annual rainfall is one of the most
important factors affecting wildlife populations
in Texas. Species like quail exhibit "boom
and bust" population fluctuations, much of
which can be attributed to precipitation
patterns. Drouth years are usually characterized
by low nesting success and/or survival in quail
and wild turkey. Similarly, fawn survival and
antler development are usually lower during dry
summers. |

The major challenge in raising
outstanding foals is to provide the correct
nutrition. There is a wide range of management
practices designed to address this problem. Many
farms creep feed foals. Other places manage by
pasturing nursing mares without additional
supplementation. The foal gets mare's milk and
whatever forage sustains the mare. |
