Nation’s Feeder Cattle Prices
Trended Higher Late Last Week

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. —(USDA)— Feeder cattle and calf prices were unsettled last week with early sales on steers and heifers steady to $2 lower, yearlings as much as $4-5 off in Oklahoma City. Late week sales found prices near steady with some $1 higher.

Both fed and feeder cattle futures contract prices shot sharply higher, advancing several dollars by week's end and firing hopes that the bottom for the market has been put in earlier. Fed cattle sales rebounded to close at the $60 mark in the High Plains on Thursday.

Feeder cattle numbers covered on this report are still running substantially under last year's totals as both buyers and sellers maintain a wait and see stance.

Some rain fell in parts of Oklahoma and Texas, but not nearly enough to considered a drouth breaker.

Yearlings accounted for approximately 50 percent of the week's sales.
