Joe Russell of Menard last weekend bought, and received Monday of this week, 733 mixed Columbia-Rambouillet feeder lambs weighing 73.3 pounds net from James Page of Eldorado at 17 cents per pound.

J.P. Sparks of Eden last Saturday bought 359 mixed lambs from L.A. Vanderford of San Angelo, through San Angelo Livestock Auction Company, at $16.50 cwt.

W.E. Berry of Fort Stockton this week sold 1400 straight mutton lambs to buyers there at 16 cents a pound. The lambs will deliver Saturday and go on fields in the Fort Stockton area.

Moorhouse and Son of Seymour bought around 150 mixed Angus calves about 10 days ago from Mrs. John Buie of Millersview, Ford Corkran of San Angelo and Curtis Stephens of Eden at 16 and 18 cents a pound on the heifers and steers, respectively.

"Miss Wool of 1953" is Kathryn Gromatzky of San Angelo, who won the title here last week in final competition among beauties from throughout the state in the second annual contest sponsored by the Texas Sheep & Goat Raisers Association.

M.J. Stewart Jr., Llano, bought 400 crossbred blackface ewe lambs from Theron Weatherby, Big Lake, at $22 cwt. They weighed 72 pounds.

Allen Knorpp of Groom, Texas, is reported to have sold 185 yearling steers expected to average near 800 pounds at $24.50 for early October delivery to a Colorado buyer.

Dee Medley of Groom sold 126 steers expected to weigh around 800 pounds at $25 for Oct. 1-15 delivery to a Colorado buyer.

Jack Steinmitz of Dodge City, Kan., bought 950 mixed calves from the White Rock Pool, Roosevelt, Utah, at $30 and $32 for heifers and steers, respectively. These calves are expected to average near 375 pounds.

George Porter, Amarillo, sold 250 steers weighing 683 pounds, described as Okie type, at $23 and delivered them Sept. 5 to an Amarillo buyer.

Jamie Kothmann, Menard, Texas, sold three carloads (990 head) of whiteface lambs averaging 60 pounds to an Ohio buyer at $15.

Sam Heiskell of Dalhart sold 220 heifer yearlings averaging 650 pounds at $22.50 to a Nebraska buyer.

Henry Cone of Canyon bought 60 steer yearlings weighing about 700 pounds at $22.50 from Dale Henry of Canyon.

Cleve Jones of Sonora, Texas, sold 700 good and choice Hereford and Angus steer calves weighing 400 to 450 pounds at $28 and $29 to various northern buyers.

Dimmitt Feed Yard, Dimmitt, sold 250 steers weighing 1075-1100 pounds and grading 70-75 percent choice, at $27.25 to a Texas packer.

Willie Gallegos, Logan, N.M., sold 135 Hereford and Angus mixed calves expected to weigh 385 and 415 at $27 and $31 for Oct. 1 delivery, hauled seven miles and shrunk two percent to a Kansas buyer.

Alvin Koonsman, Snyder, Texas, sold 225 Hereford mixed calves weighing 475 and 500 pounds at $26 and $29 to a Dalhart buyer.

Sam Kotara, Groom, bought 214 Hereford mixed calves weighing 392 and 417 at $27 and $31 with a 10 percent cut at $26-30, delivered from B.U. Terry, Endee, N.M.

Boyd Colbert, Clovis, N.M., bought in that area one load of native Hereford steers weighing 700 pounds at $55.

Adult mohair has been averaging about $5.05 per pound for average original bag in a few scattered private treaty sales.

Cactus Feeders Inc. and Iowa Beef Processors have entered a marketing agreement involving a grade-and-yield type of selling for fed cattle coming out of the Cactus feedlots. Cactus is the nation’s largest feedlot operator, marketing almost 800,000 head in 1987.
