Texas Calf Roper Wins Big
In Two Northwestern Rodeos

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. — While Hurricane Bonnie was wreaking havoc in the South, Texas calf roper Trent Walls was roping havoc in the North.

The 25 year-old cowboy from Stephenville, Texas, roped himself $4583 in prize money recently at a pair of Washington rodeos.

Walls needed just 17.5 seconds to win the two-head calf roping average title and $3308 at the $104,173 Horse Heaven Round-up in Kennewick and 7.9 seconds to pocket $1275 at the Kitsap County Fair & Rodeo in Bremerton.

Walls’ weekend haul from the North boosts him to third place in the Sept. 1 Crown Royal world calf roping standings and puts him in contention for his first qualification for the National Finals Rodeo, scheduled for Dec. 4-13 in Las Vegas, Nev. Walls finished the ‘97 season 24th with $39,903.
