Virgil Powell of San Angelo has sold two carloads of
mixed calves for delivery this week to a local buyer at
15 and 16 cents a pound for heifers and steers,
respectively.

Bob Alexander of Gruver, Texas, is reported to have
sold, to Carl Franks of Oklahoma City, 100 plain fleshy
feeder steers averaging 850 to 900 pounds at $16 cwt.,
September 29 delivery.

Buck York of Midland, Texas, and Vaughn, New Mexico,
is reported to have sold and delivered about 350 cows and
calves this week off his Las Vegas ranch at $115 per
pair.

Hal Bogle of Dexter, New Mexico, last week bought
around 1000 mixed feeder lambs from Graciano Yriart of
Roswell at 14 cents a pound.

Bond-Baker Company of Roswell, New Mexico, this week
bought several bunches of crossbred feeder lambs for
their feedlots at $13 to $13.50 and one bunch with a fat
end at $13.75.

The Bridwell Ranch at Adrian, Texas, is reported to
have sold 200 heifer yearlings weighing near 700 pounds
at $25 for delivery this week; also, off the ranch near
Romero, about 650 steer yearlings at $27 for those
weighing under 800 pounds and $26 on heavier weights,
also for delivery this week.

Clifton Sharp of Hartley, Texas, sold 211 heifer
yearlings weighing near 700 pounds to an Amarillo buyer
for delivery Oct. 18 in Springfield, Colo., at $25 with
two percent shrink and 10 percent cut.

Jack Steinmitz of Dodge City, Kan., bought 400 Brahman
heifer yearlings weighing about 600 pounds at $21 for
delivery this week from Young & Cooper of Wichita.

Henry Cone of Amarillo sold 100 Hereford cows three to
seven years old, with four calves on them, at $220 to
Jack Louder of Happy, Texas, delivered Oct. 1; he also
sold 69 Angus cows weighing near 1050 pounds with 49
calves on them at $275 to a Mr. Mills of Abernathy,
delivered last week.

Elmer Kelton has been named editor of The Sheep
& Goat Raiser, official magazine of the Texas
Sheep & Goat Raisers Assn., announced James L. Powell
of Ft. McKavett, association president.
Kelton is former agricultural editor of the San
Angelo Standard-Times, where he has worked for about
15 years. A native of Crane, Texas, where his father,
Buck Kelton, is manager of the McElroy Ranch Co., Elmer
is a journalism graduate of Texas University and is an
infantry veteran of the European Theater of Operations in
World War II.

heifer yearlings averaging 600-625 pounds at $22 from
A.D. Weatherly off his ranch at Des Moines, N.M.

Amarillo to Illinois buyers.

Bulk of the 65-80 pound West Texas feeder lambs
brought $24-25, lightweights $25-26. Good and choice
60-80 pound feeders were quoted at $24-25, a few 60-65
pounders $25-25.60, and some under 60 pounds up to $26 in
the San Angelo auction.

weighing 900 pounds, grading 90 percent choice, at $26.60
to a Texas packer.

$24 from Jake Merck, Sonora, averaging 57 pounds; and 450

Junction Stockyards has been bought by Willard Jordan,
Mason auctioneer and ranchman. The auction firm was
founded about 15 years ago by Charlie Schwartz, who has
extensive ranching interests in the Junction area.

25,000 pounds of yearling at $5.40-5.55.
