Nation’s Feeder Cattle, Calf
Prices Higher Again Last Week

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. —(USDA)— Prices for feeder cattle and calves were higher across the country again last week. Feeder steers and heifers sold $1-3 higher for the most part.

Prices were fueled from several sources, including continued price gains for fed cattle, which saw a $4 jump with most sales in the High Plains at $63. Higher prices also developed for CME futures contracts, and more rain fell through some of the wheat and oat pasturing regions.

Boxed beef prices were in the neighborhood of $6 higher during the week to help spur the fed cattle market as supplies are reportedly tighter.

Producers in the Midwest were busy with fall harvest and the annual feeder runs in that region still haven't gotten underway. About the only negative to be found was in the sharp price jump for corn, which will impact feeding costs.

Yearlings weighing more than 600 pounds made up approximately 37 percent of the week's run.
