45 YEARS AGO

Sam Allison of Sonora is reported to have sold 2400 mixed lambs estimated to average 65 pounds for delivery next week at $18 cwt.

H.G. Beauchamp of Amarillo sold two loads of heifer yearlings at $15.50 for November 19 delivery to Bob Mayer of Denver, Colorado. These are expected to weigh around 700 pounds.

E.L. Hensley, Altus, Oklahoma, bought 143 heifer calves weighing 379 pounds at $16 from Bob Hulett of Amarillo for November 2 delivery. He also bought 85 steer calves weighing 425 pounds at $18, November 15 delivery, from R.L. Moore of Matador, Texas.

Stewart Evans of Mertzon this week sold a load of 68-pound feeder lambs at $17.25.

Floyd Lee of San Mateo, New Mexico, is reported to have sold 400 steer yearlings to Joe Schwartzman of Albuquerque at 16 cents a pound.

40 YEARS AGO

Jake Carthel of Amarillo sold one load of two year-old Angus bred heifers at $275 per head, delivered last week to a Minnesota buyer.

Glenn Casey, Amarillo, sold 100 steer yearlings weighing 662 pounds at $28, delivered Nov. 3 to Ray Barr and Leonard Zielke, Amarillo.

Mid-West Feed Yards, San Angelo, this week bought one load of 83-pound wooled feeder lambs from John Sheen of Mertzon at $21 cwt.

Cecil Guseman of Hereford, Texas, has sold 550 heifer yearlings at $25.50 and 650 steer yearlings at $26.90 for January delivery to Amarillo buyers. These cattle are expected to weigh near 775 pounds at delivery.

Gene Cluck of Gruver is reported to have sold about 300 heifer yearlings weighing 625 pounds at $24.90, delivered this week, to an Amarillo buyer.

California had 1,070,000 cattle and calves on feed Nov. 1, or eight percent more than a year ago, the USDA reports.

Mrs. Ella Frieze of Grenville, N.M., sold 380 steer yearlings weighing about 650 pounds at $135 per head, delivered to Bill Cross of Lewis, Kan.

Don Kuper of Dalhart sold 185 steer yearlings weighing 765 at $22 and delivered them to Gooch Feed Lots, Dalhart.

Walter Smith of Wyoming, Ill., bought 200 steer calves weighing about 400 pounds at $28 in the Romero, Texas area.

Ralph Britten of Groom bought 110 good mixed breed steer yearlings weighing 750 pounds at $19.50 and received them from H.H. Keahey, Groom.

Capitol Cattle Co., Austin, sold 400 Angus heifers weighing 558 at $23.85 to a Missouri buyer and 216 Hereford heifers weighing 538 at the same price to a Kansas buyer, delivered off ranges near Springer, N.M.

Frio Cattle Co., Hereford, bought 280 good Okie steers weighing 600 pounds at $25.60 through Vann-Roach Cattle Co., Fort Worth, and placed the cattle in Deaf Smith Feed Yards, Hereford.

Mike Ballentine, Morse, Texas, sold 143 Angus steers weighing 620 at $25.50 to a feeder who placed them in Sugarland Feed Yards, Hereford, for finishing. They were hauled 30 miles and shrunk one percent.

Veribest Cattle Feeders, San Angelo, sold three loads of 70-80 percent choice 1050 pound steers at $27 to a Texas packer.

Northwest Feed Yards, Buffalo, Okla., sold 271 steers weighing 1075-1100, grading 70 percent choice, at $26.75 to Oklahoma packers.
