Guy Allen Claims Record 13
World Steer Roping Titles

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Guy Allen's name isn't just written in the record books, it's chiseled.

"The Legend" claimed a record 13th world steer roping title — more single-event titles than any other competitor in history — at the National Finals Steer Roping Oct. 30-31 in Guthrie, Okla.

The 40 year-old cowboy from Lovington, New Mexico, broke his own regular-season earnings record of $66,499 just prior to the '98 NFSR by placing in the money at 39 of the 48 rodeos he roped at during the season to boast $87,927 in steer roping money.

Competing in his record 22nd NFSR, Allen pocketed another $11,205 at the 10-round finals to boost his year-end earnings to $99,132, which shattered the year-end steer roping earnings record of $84,324 he set last year.
