Nation’s Feeder Cattle Prices
Little Changed At Thanksgiving

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. —(USDA)— Feeder steers and heifers were generally steady on limited offerings during last week’s holiday-shortened period. Calves sometimes found a firmer undertone as buyers were stocking winter pastures.

Fed cattle prices jumped back to the $62 level for most sales in the High Plains while CME futures prices took a sharp turn to the upside. Boxed beef failed to keep pace, however. Huge kills of slaughter hogs are keeping an abundant supply of pork in the meat channels and possibly limiting any price gains for cattle.

Unseasonably warm weather encompasses a large share of the country and provides good growing conditions for winter pastures.

Yearlings weighing more than 600 pounds accounted for approximately 43 percent of the week's run.
