Lamb Prices Higher, Lamb Imports Up
Lamb prices moved higher on both fats and feeders this week despite the second largest weekly volume of lamb imports to reach the country this year. Lamb and mutton passed for entry into the United States totaled 3.2 million pounds last week, the equivalent of 64 percent of domestic production. Most of that would be from lightweight animals, and lightweight carcasses on the East Coast moved up $5. The upcoming holiday fare must be favoring lamb.

Plains Fed Cattle Trading Off Again In Short Session
Santa Claus ain't comin' to town. At least he hasn't been seen around any feedlots lately. Texas Panhandle feeders saw cattle sell for $58 Tuesday and faced $57 bids Wednesday, at least briefly. Texas counted about 30,000 head selling Tuesday and a total of 77,094 through midweek on a 78,000-head showlist. Almost 33,000 of them were captives.

World Wool Output Lowest Since 1960s
World wool production this season will hit its lowest level since the 1960s, the International Wool Textile Organization predicted Monday. The agency said that, in line with falls throughout this decade, global production in the 1998-99 (July-June) season would total an estimated 1.42 million metric tons clean basis, compared with 1.446 million tons estimated for 1997-98.

Slaughter steers and heifers closed mostly $1 lower in Texas Panhandle and Western Oklahoma feedlot trading, though many cattle traded at midweek at steady levels before buyers pushed bids lower.

Angelo Lambs Mixed, Feeder Cattle Steady
Feeder lambs sold firm to $1 higher this week, slaughter lambs weak to $2 lower, slaughter ewes firm to $1 higher. Receipts totaled 12,797 head.

San Saba, Brownwood, Mason Feeders Mixed
Feeder steers and heifers weighing less than 650 pounds sold steady to strong in Mason, Brownwood and San Saba last week, heavier weights steady to $1.50 lower. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $2 higher, stock cows steady. Receipts totaled 3122 head at the three sales.

Graham Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Lower
Feeder steers and heifers sold $1-2 lower, most steers under 450 pounds steady, slaughter cows and bulls 50 cents to $1 higher, stock cows and pairs fully steady. Receipts totaled 1196 head.

Llano Feeder Steers, Heifers Trend Lower
Feeder steers sold steady to $2 lower, some lightweights $3-5 off, heifers $1-3 lower, slaughter cows $2-3 higher, bulls steady. Receipts totaled 511 head.

Most Junction Sheep, Goat Prices Higher
Feeder lambs sold $3-4 higher, slaughter lambs $5 higher, slaughter ewes and bucks $5 higher; stock Angora nannies and muttons $10 higher, slaughter Angoras $3-5 higher; slaughter Spanish goats $6-8 higher, stock nannies $3 higher. Receipts totaled 2929 head.

Abilene Feeder Steer, Heifer Trends Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold mostly steady, slaughter cows and bulls $1-1.50 higher, stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 1583 head.

Kansas Direct Feeder Cattle Trade Steady
Feeder steers sold mostly steady in Kansas direct trade last week, heifers too limited for a test. The weather was fairly mild with temperatures in the mid-40s to the 20s. Sales were confirmed on 4260 head.

Most Milano Cattle Prices Termed Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 883 head.

Fredericksburg Feeder Steers, Heifers Mixed
Feeder steers under 625 pounds sold strong, heavier weights $1-2 lower, lightweight heifers $1-3 higher, heavyweight steady, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipts totaled 2792 head.

Lampasas Feeder Steer, Heifer Prices Higher
Feeder steers and heifers weighing under 600 pounds sold $4-5 higher, heavier weights steady to $2 higher, slaughter cows and bulls steady. Receipt totaled 1450 head.

Colorado City Feeder Cattle Prices Steady
Feeder steers and heifers sold steady, slaughter cows steady to $3 higher, bulls steady, bred stock cows and pairs steady. Receipts totaled 302 head.

Goldthwaite Feeder, Fat Lambs Higher
Feeder lambs sold $2 higher, slaughter lambs $5 higher; slaughter Angora muttons steady; slaughter Spanish kids steady, other slaughter goats $6-8 higher; stock nannies $7 higher. Receipts totaled 2200 head.

U.S. Meat Production 8.8% Above A Year Ago
Total red meat production under federal inspection last week was estimated at 906.1 million pounds, .4 percent more than a week ago and 8.8 percent above a year ago. Cumulative meat production for the year to date was up 3.4 percent at 42.1 billion pounds.

Cuero Cattle Active, Prices Termed Mixed
Trading was active with cattle price trends generally mixed. Receipts totaled 3368 head. Feeder steers: 300-350 lbs. $89-101, 350-400 lbs. $80-92, few $93-98, 400-450 lbs. $79-84, 450-500 lbs. $68-78, 500-600 lbs. $65-75, 600-700 lbs. $52-62, over 700 lbs. $46-59.
