Pokin' Fun
So the New Year is upon us again.
Remember last year how you had a bit too much
eggnog? Well, there is not an oversupply of eggs,
so don't overdo it and claim you're trying to
help the poultry industry. A guy got carried away
with that idea last year and drank a chicken. |

The outbuildings still shelter
chickens as the tin houses did in her mother's
time (1880s to 1970s). Cartons of brown
thick-shelled eggs fill the refrigerator. An
authentic pantry shelves the vegetables and fruit
canned every fall from her garden on the north
side of the house. She, my cousin, doesn't milk a
cow any longer to feed pens full of dogie lambs
on her ranch below Sherwood. |

On The Edge Of
Common Sense
Lord, as we put a close to 1998 we
find we have painted ourselves in a corner again.
Most of agriculture is in the toilet. |

As
I See It ...
I imagine you're already tired of
hearing about the new postal rate increase. You
too may be griping about the increase. I know I
used to be irritated about the cost of postal
services. That was when I lived in big cities and
medium-sized country towns, because back then I
had forgotten about the REAL post office. |

I hesitate to admit that we had a mouse
in our house. I mention it only to scare off any
relatives who may be thinking of coming for an
extended visit. |

Matters of...Equine
What do a horse and a dung beetle have
in common? The answer to this question is one of
those things you go off to school to learn -
things that your parents may not know or care to
talk about. Coprophagy is certainly a subject not
permitted at my mother's table. |

One more reason to buy a computer is
Internet shopping. You have read where the big
deal in stocks is those that are developing
shopping over the Internet. Amazon.com stock has
gone bonkers with no profits. The reason is that
it is seen as the Walmart of the future. |
