"Now that President Eisenhower is
trying to sell Congress on a new farm
program," said John, "he's liable to
get an idea of how a man feels trying to sell a
string of thin cows on a dropping market in a bad
drouth. No matter how he shapes the deal up, it
will look bad to a lot of people and won't look
entirely good to anybody." |

Speaking to a Texas SME Club is
quite an experience. This enthusiastic group of
men and women dedicated to sales and marketing
are great representatives of the free enterprise
system. They are strong on motivation,
inspiration, and education, but also know how to
enjoy a good laugh. One program covered the
effort-wasting habit of worrying. To quote a
member, "This speaker told us not to worry.
I never did before. Now I can't get it out of my
mind. That worries me." |

Shortgrass Country
At this writing, I am in Vista,
California, a small town in northern San Diego
County. Not small like Mertzon, but small
for a community 30 miles from the Pacific Ocean
between such populous giants as San Diego and Los
Angeles. The motel management agreed to allow me
inside the office to write as long as the door
stayed locked by a deadbolt and I agreed to keep
out of the way of the office work. |

Russia. How can a country so rich
in natural resources, available labor and a
modern infrastructure be unable to feed itself? |

As
I See It ...

are at least three different perspectives on
country life held by folks who live in the
country. Which one do you hold? Take this little
