Most Feeder Cattle And Calf
Prices Moved Lower Last Week

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. —(USDA)— Feeder cattle prices around the country generally turned lower last week. Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 lower except in Kentucky, the Southeast, Wyoming and the Northwest, where prices were steady to $2 higher.

Another liberal run of feeder offerings met with a little tougher demand than has been in place since the first of the year. Buyers were watching fed cattle prices struggle with most sales completed at the $60-61 level late in the High Plains. In addition, CME futures contracts on both fed and feeder cattle lost substantial ground. Boxed beef prices came in for a hammering as the supply of beef surpassed demand.

Rain, snow, or ice, depending upon location, moved into some of the wheat and oat pasturing country late in the week to alleviate some of the dry conditions.

Yearlings made up approximately 53 percent of the week's feeder run.
