There's a television set in the lobby, of course. It's seldom turned on while we regular lobby loungers are there, because the station doesn't go on the air until late afternoon after we've all scattered, as the saying goes, to our several homes.

Well, we've had a good mid-term break in most parts of the country, but school is well under way again. You can tell because students are buying up school supplies and teachers are stocking up on aspirin. A teacher returned home from her third grade class, kicked off her shoes, and collapsed in a heap on the sofa.

Few visitors come by the ranch. During hunting season, my sons and grandsons come bird and deer hunting. Christmas used to draw a few members of the family, but heavy church and holiday responsibilities brought on by parenthood stopped all travel.

On The Edge Of Common Sense
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has decided to reintroduce the wolf into Gettysburg National Military Park. They hope to recreate the balance of nature that existed 200 years ago. If it is successful, plans are to expand wolf releases in Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation area in Ohio and the Midewin National Tall Grass Prairie south of Chicago.

As I See It ...
Every year, come late January or early February, I get bitten by the same bug. All it takes is one warm, sunny day and I'm a goner. My "bug" is an itch, an almost overwhelming urge — a compulsion — to plant something. Anything.
