There's a television set in the lobby,
of course. It's seldom turned on while we regular
lobby loungers are there, because the station
doesn't go on the air until late afternoon after
we've all scattered, as the saying goes, to our
several homes. |

Pokin' Fun
Well, we've had a good mid-term
break in most parts of the country, but school is
well under way again. You can tell because
students are buying up school supplies and
teachers are stocking up on aspirin. A teacher
returned home from her third grade class, kicked
off her shoes, and collapsed in a heap on the
sofa. |

Shortgrass Country
Few visitors come by the ranch.
During hunting season, my sons and grandsons come
bird and deer hunting. Christmas used to draw a
few members of the family, but heavy church and
holiday responsibilities brought on by parenthood
stopped all travel. |

On The Edge Of
Common Sense
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
has decided to reintroduce the wolf into
Gettysburg National Military Park. They hope to
recreate the balance of nature that existed 200
years ago. If it is successful, plans are to
expand wolf releases in Cuyahoga Valley National
Recreation area in Ohio and the Midewin National
Tall Grass Prairie south of Chicago. |

As
I See It ...
Every year, come late January or
early February, I get bitten by the same bug. All
it takes is one warm, sunny day and I'm a goner.
My "bug" is an itch, an almost
overwhelming urge a compulsion to
plant something. Anything. |
